Blue Canary in the Outlet by the Light Switch

Clueless Wonder, Saturday 6:30 Saturday morning, as I set off for work. At least one of us was content.

It was a long Saturday at work. For some reason, there was no net connection all day, so I was forced to manufacture my own amusements between tasks. I took advantage of the temporarily dry morning to string the Christmas lights up outside my office. I finished the job none too soon; it began to lightly drizzle shortly after I finished, and move on to a cold steady rain not much later in the afternoon, dragging with it a premature dusk that did nothing to improve my attitude.

My Minion at work reported to me that the other departments working Saturday got a $2.00 credit toward breakfast and another one for lunch at the company cafeteria. Our company cafeteria is subsidized, so $2.00 pretty much pays for a meal there. Anyhow, the Minion wanted to know what I knew about the vouchers that everyone other than we were getting, asking as if he thought I were either holding out on him or in a position to do something about it. He was quite mistaken on both counts. I was worried that he’d make an issue of it come Monday morning, and stick my name on his verbal petition when he tendered his complaint. It simply felt too petty to grovel for $4.00, and I wanted to just drop it. Turns out that not only did he make an issue of it, but that the Big Boss was in on Saturday, and he complained directly to him. BB reached into his wallet and tried to give Minion $5.00; at least the idiot was intelligent enough to go shamefaced at that. There are times I simply have to shake my head at the depths avarice can take a person to, though.

Sunday I met with a close friend from vet school. She’s the one with twenty cats, and who arranged for KfH for me. I still have to make up my mind whether to hug her or throttle her for that favor. We got most of our Christmas shopping finalized (though I’m still stuck on a few members of The Professor’s family) and had ourselves a couple of beers and a good chat. We made tentative plans to attend the AVMA convention in Nashville this summer together. If we drive down together, we can save on airfare and have ourselves a Thelma and Louise road experience (optimistically, with a happier ending).

Watched Star Trek Generations with The Prof last night – a nice way to wind down although I think I was starting to annoy him by arguing with the movie when they did stupid screw-ups with the plot (and what was with the Klingon Chicks’ costumes in that movie anyhow?). [Interesting – my spellcheck just tried to change “Klingon” to “Clinton”. Gave me a good laugh, anyhow.]

I took a picture of myself with red hair with a thought of putting it in my diary, but chickened out. You guys are just going to have to wonder.

  4. I think I’ve been to your diary before because I think I remember a reference to "The Professor", but if so it was a while back. I love your "cast of characters" pictures and info. Also what an interesting and descriptive entry… I could picture everything. p.s. cute kitties. 🙂
