Fiber Optic Christmas Tree

Fiber optics are plastic lines that conduct light. They have a lot of practical uses, especially in the communications and computer industries. But they can also be used for decoration.

In the past few years, trees lit with fiber optics seemed to pop out of nowhere. The prettiest ones (in my humble opinion) have the lights finely scattered throughout the branches, making the tree literally glow with a soft light. They come so that you can make tham have either a steady glow of a solid color or fade in and out through the complete rainbow of colors, making the tree seem to almost shimmer. The best picture I could find of one really doesn’t do them justice:

  1. I gotta say I’m with Jade on this one! Maybe I just live in the boonies.. but I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a fibre optic Christmas tree! SOUNDS cool though… 🙂

  2. You could try doing with your tree what I had to do with mine for several years, put it in a play pen. Kept the dogs and babies out of it!

  3. The YMCA is a great place to workout. Their personal trainers are great…you made to right choice in fitness centers. As long as you don’t sing Y-M-C-A, you and the Prof should be golden 😉

  4. I love the convenience of a fake tree..open box pop out tree. But the family tradition of going to the tree farm, searching for just the right one, and then the smell….can’t beat it. I know my parents always had one and still do, maybe I’m rebelling against my family by having a real one.

    But a sale..LOVE those. I’m a slut for sales I tell ya!

  5. Thanks for the description. Now I know what it is – I happened to see an ad for a fibre optic light later on the day you made this entry. Once I saw that ad I knew exactly what you were talking about, though I hadn’t seen them on Trees before.
