National Geographic?

I just had what had to be the weirdest phone call I’ve ever gotten professionally. A representative from National Geographic called to ask if they could film Temple Grandin when she visited our company this coming Monday. They are doing a special on autism, and are profiling her as an example of a successful autistic person who not only has a brilliant career but has contributed much knowledge in the field of understanding and treating autism.

Frankly, I’m more than a little intimidated by Dr. Grandin’s impending visit anyhow. This chance for me to meet her professionally can be compared to a lowly extra meeting a great, successful star and sharing a brief scene with him. Monday is going to be exceedingly stressful. Having film crews overseeing this would be more than I could handle.

Fortunately, I didn’t think National Geographic had a chance. I thought I’d be safe. My company has a policy about filming on premises. As in: Nobody films on premises. So when I passed the request on, I expected (hoped) it would be turned down flat.

It wasn’t. They’re taking it under advisement. They’ll get back to me this afternoon.

I am scared shitless. Please let them say “no”. Please, please, please ….
