Shopping, Arizona Snow and Cat Photos.

One last thing for the Elder Sister. That’s all I needed. One last thing, to balance the packages between Elder and Younger. I had to run out for kitty litter and a prescription refill anyhow, so I figured I’d bite the bullet, brave the crowds, and, as Nike advises, just do it.

Well, I just did it, but now I’m just done in. What a disaster. First to the pharmacy. That one was straightforward enough, and the pharmacy wasn’t even particularly busy. I congratulated myself on timing things well, and decided to try my luck at Hellmart next. Upon arrival, I discovered why there had been no one at the pharmacy. There was no one left to go there. They were all busy keeping Walmart in business. I parked somewhere in the next county and hoofed it to the Walmart front door. Since I had no idea what to get the Elder Sister, I was hoping for inspiration. What I got was my foot run over by a shopping cart, splashed by a bottle of apple juice that was dropped over by electronics (“Wet spill clean up on Aisle Five!”) and a paper cut from an envelope over at the Christmas card display. I did manage to score my kitty litter, and I got a new covered cat box for downstairs as well. I also found a string of battery operated berry lights that I’ve strung on the wreath of my front door. What I did not get was a present for the Elder Sister.

Ah well, on to Kohl’s. I must say the Kohl’s knows how to throw a decent sale. I just wish they carried more petites (both the Elder Sister and I are vertically challenged). Just as I was about ready to give up I found a really nice fleece zip pullover top with black, brown, tan and rust stripes. I found a matching set of petite slacks to go with it, and still ended up spending less than I’d planned. It did take me about an hour’s worth of searching to locate these finds, but at least I didn’t get my foot run-over this time while I was on my search and capture mission. I also found a nice box of little glass mini-balls for my fiber optic tree for under five bucks. I had to stand in line longer than I’d spent searching for my goodies, but at least I’m done now. I believe a hearty “woo hoo!” is in order at this point.

The Socialist called me at about 5:30 my time to say he was stuck in a huge traffic jam caused by a large snowfall in Arizona. He did not sound happy. He’d harbored hopes of actually making it to California tonight, but that is not to be now. I suggested he just give up, abandon the highway at the first available opportunity, and wait a day before proceding. He was less than enthusiastic about that, but a too-close-for-comfort encounter with a spinning car in the lane to his left may have convinced him that it’s for the Matrix’s own good if he bails for a bit. He promised to call me later this evening to let me know how he’s making out.

Since the kitties were deprived of their visit to jolly old St. Nick this year, I decided to try and get some Christmas pictures of them myself. Following are the results:

Was there ever so handsome a cat? Other cat owners are exempt from answering that question.
Kitten, on the other hand, was far too interested in playing to pose properly for me. I thought she looked rather elegant in this shot, though.
Kitten also noticed one of my Beanie Babies, and decided to treat herself to an early Christmas present. Fortunately, I retrieved Mr. Chamelion before any major trauma was incurred.
Finally, even Kittens tire, and she decided to collapse next to the O’Beast. For a few minutes, there was peace on Earth. Well, at least there was peace on my little piece of earth.
It, of course, didn’t last. A few minutes of down time, and Kitten was sufficiently recharged to consider taking on the Christmas tree. She knows her fuzzy mice are there, but hasn’t figured out how to unwrap them. Yet.
Finally, Kitten sets up to lurk on the stairway. She’s a little too high to scalp me, but she’s scouting the horizon to see if she can safely assume position on a lower stair that will allow a sneak attack.

And finally, the picture that says it all:

  1. Beautiful photos! Not being a cat owner, I can say, enthusiastically, that I don’t believe there ever -has- been a more handsome cat. 🙂

And hearing your stories of shopping hell, I’m ever so glad I resisted! I’ll pick up the DVD tomorrow, during working hours.

  2. The pictures are wonderful! My mom is a big cat lover and she and I had a good chuckle over them. You had better let that kitten have her present or she may go after the beanie baby again.
