I didn’t bother calling to find out what my MELD score was this week. Based on my last bloodwork, it would have dropped again and I just didn’t feel like dealing with the bad news. I’ll see if Dr. Liver wants to draw new bloodwork on Friday, even though it’s really too early to do it yet.

I have a bunch of daffodils on my desk in a cobalt blue vase. Every year my company has a benefit for the Cancer Society called “Daffodil Days”. They sell the little potted narcissis, bunches of daffodils (with or without a vase), and stuffed animals with daffodil motifs, with the proceeds going to the Cancer Society. The daffodils arrived yesterday, and when I picked up my bunch all the flowers were closed tightly. I wondered how long it would take them to open, and whether or not they would all open. This morning answered both questions. Every single one of the buds is now a huge flower (these are big daffodils!), and the perfume they’ve released in my office further enhances the spring feel to the weather outside (low sixties again). The way I see it, it wasn’t only the Cancer Society that benefitted from this purchase.

I’ve seen the first two parts of “Children of Dune”, and so far I’m quite pleased with the series. I’m always worried when plans are made to film an epic science fiction or fantasy series, because it is so easy to screw up and ruin it. So far, SciFi channel is managing to pull it off though. Yes, there have been changes made to the original books to translate this to the little screen. For example, I can understand the justification for making the Atreides children older in the series than they were in the books though; some of what was in the books simply wouldn’t play well if child actors had been used instead of young adults. I will admit that it probably helps having read the books before seeing the series though, since I’m able to immediately recognize some of the more subtle things that are happening rather than having to puzzle them out. I managed to get my taxes done tonight (YAY! $2100.00 coming my way!) so I was able to get home in time to see part 3. Which starts in a little less than three-quarters of an hour, I believe.

Am I the only person getting this stupid piece of spam on their AtMail account?

  1. Everyone seems to be getting lots of spam now from Africa, mostly Nigeria and the Ivory Coast. I just delete it without opening. They are all scams.

  2. We get faxes like that at work all the time!!! and I love Daffodil Days. A friend of mine’s mother died from cancer and she sells them every year for the cancer society. They are gorgeous flowers. You can also purchase some to have delivered to a cancer patient.

  3. This is a variation on a con/hoax that has been circulating the internet for several years. While I haven’t gotten this one yet (although it is only a matter of time!) I did get the dozen or so previous ones sent out with different names and slightly different circumstances.

    Dontcha just loooove spam?

    NOT.

  5. Count me in as on the receiving end of spam email—not that exact one, but close.

Daffodils are like weeds around here…I forget how pretty they are. I broke down and bought another flat of primroses from Costco again. Hopefully tomorrow (make that today since it is close to 1 am) I will get them in the ground.

  6. I liked Children of Dune. I miss the funny hats from the original miniseries though ;o)

Tex was having a little trouble following it because she’s not too familiar with the book. Oh, and the dog jumping on her.
