Shadows of Black and Grey

I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me,

And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.

– My Shadow, Robert Louis Stevenson

I sit on the sofa, and she’s on my lap. I sit at the computer, and he’s in the window sling. I sit at the table and they’re both weaving in and out between my feet. What in the world did these cats ever do before they had me home with them all day?

I’ve had to hide pieces of the cat toy that the Elder Sister gave me this past weekend. The Kitten keeps taking her favorite piece off of it and dragging it around the house. I thought I’d finally beaten her last night when I hid the piece under the rest of the toy (which is probably about five pounds and was sitting on the dining room table). This morning, however, I came downstairs to discover that most of that end of the table was on the floor, and the piece was again among the missing. No wonder she sleeps on my lap all day. She’s up all night tearing things apart.

I had a small outing yesterday. My desk chair at my computer had been a $15 bargain a few years ago, but like most bargains of that ilk, it had the longevity of a fruit fly. The chair was safe enough when I was steady, but in my present condition it was a hazard, so the Socialist took me over to Staples to find a replacement. Riding in cars is still not easy. I have to sit in the back (there’s a danger to me if an airbag goes off until I heal) and I feel every bump and turn we take. Fortunately, Staples is only a few blocks away. I took my walker with me (yes, I’ve been reduced to a walker if I want to traverse any real distance) but it turned out that Staples had an office chair sale going, and all the chairs were right in the front of the store, so I really didn’t need the walker after all. I found a great replacement, much better than the original chair, and managed to get outside for a little bit.

The next few days here are supposed to be clear and warm. We may even make the low nineties. I can’t say I’m looking forward to the heat – I seem to mind it terribly at the moment. Still, there’s always air-conditioning.

  1. Sounds good that you was able to get out of the house for awhile, even if it was to go shopping.

And…I’m glad to hear that you was able to find what you needed.

Cats were born mischievious, so yours is normal! lol
