This Rock Don’t Roll

Things are quiet here under my rock recently. The cats are easing into their summer laziness, and aren’t doing much worth reporting. Well, the Grey Menace did find another spider to play with, but this one lasted far shorter than the spider I documented her playing with last year. She’s still rough with her toys, and spiders tend to be on the fragile side. I suppose that the humane response would be to save the spider and kick it outside. If it got in once though it can get in again, and if it’s going to invade my apartment then it’s going to have to be prepared to face the consequences of its actions.

Now that the warmer weather is finally here, the legacy from last year’s morning glory vines is starting to put in an appearance. Through the stone ballast and between the paving blocks, morning glory seedlings are valiantly struggling towards their doom. I wince a little inside each time I have to uproot one of the little beggers, but I can’t let them grow willy-nilly among the paving stones. I’m thinking of getting a few large planters for the walled in non-garden, but it’s still too early to think earnestly on what I’ll be cultivating come summer for my garden. The primroses are still in their prime, and I’d rather enjoy those than worry about what to replace them with eventually.

I’m still checking out places to stay for the Socialist’s and my planned get-away over Memorial Day weekend. I don’t want to simply go and leave finding a place to luck. It is Memorial Day weekend after all, and the entire world will be on the road that weekend. But I’m not sure of where he wants to go exactly. We’ve decided on western New York, but that’s still a lot of territory. And I haven’t found any place in any area I’m interested in for less than $100/night. I’m going to have to get working on it this weekend, or even those places will be booked up.
