Farewell to Kitten

The weekend went quickly, and I’ve little to show for its passing. Saturday I spent three hours at a local pet center, trying to raise funds for the local cat shelter I’m becoming involved with. It was a slow day, and I don’t think we earned that much cash, although I suppose anything is better than nothing. The Socialist stopped by to see how I was doing. He was particularly generous in his contribution to the cause, I might add.

Sunday evening we saw Shrek 2 at a local cinema. I expected I’d enjoy it, but I didn’t appreciate how much. This is a movie that you practically need to take notes on to keep up with the humor. Jokes based on “From Here to Eternity,” “Alien,” “The Lord of the Rings,” “Spider-Man,” “King Kong,” “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “The Mask of Zorro,” “Cinderella,” “Beauty and the Beast,” the TV show “Cops,” the Oscar telecast, the O.J. Simpson white Bronco car chase, “Ghostbusters,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Mission: Impossible,”and others that just went by too fast for me to cach. I’m going to have to do some web research later, before I see the movie a second time to catch all the stuff I missed the first time. And yes, there definitely will be at least one more viewing of this flick in my future (though with tickets at $9.00 a pop, it’s quite likely I’ll be waiting for it to come out in DVD before seeing it again).

“Dekyi” is now “Katie”. She joins Krista and Kyra (at least, I think it’s “Kyra”) as the third cat in my boss’s household. Far from being the shrinking violet that my little grey menace was her first days with me, Katie has dug her heels (and claws) in with a vengence. She’s already gotten a reputation for being a prodigious jumper. I can only hope they fall in love with her fast, before she destroys anything irreplaceable.

The Socialist held her on the car ride to deliver her to her new home. I was closer than I should have been to deciding to call and cancel the delivery. She was just too damned cute sitting on the Socialist’s shoulders. Part of me is hoping she won’t work out, so I’ll be forced to take her in. Most of me knows how unrealistic such a move would be, though.

Work has been busy, and things have changed a bit for me there. I’ll have to wait and see, but I suspect that I’m going to be spending far less time around DD. I have no plans to cut back on my reading of diaries, but I suspect I’ll have less time to comment than I’ve had. If you don’t hear from me, it isn’t because I don’t care. I’ll still be lurking. You can count on that.
