Mail Call

In my inbin from yesterday:

Hello Friends,

Please see the invitation below regarding our screening premiere of the Discovery Health Documentary Gift of Life: A Series on Organ Donation and Transplantation on Weds, September 22nd. You will receive a formal invitation in the mail later this week.

Discovery Health Channel Premieres Gift of Life: A Series on Organ Donation and Transplantation

On September 23 at 8 PM (ET/PT), Discovery Health Channel will begin airing nationally the new series created with the Gift of Life Donor Program. Called The Gift of Life, the series presents six one-hour episodes that follow local families and patients, Gift of Life personnel, and hospital staff as they face the complex issues and emotions involved in organ donation and transplantation.

Please join us for a screening premiere on Wednesday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing. For more information, call Nicole Forrest at 215-557-8090 or click here to RSVP directly.

(The Web site address to RSVP is http://www.donors1.org/news/discoverrsvp.html and the Discovery Health channel can be found at http://health.discovery.com/convergence/giftoflife/giftoflife.html.

I haven’t made up my mind about attending the screening yet. I’d like to, but heading downtown after a full day of work might be more than I want to cope with, especially with the Big Audit coming up at the end of next week. Still, there’s a wee chance I’ll be in the program (I was filmed and signed a consent, but that’s no promise that the footage will be used). Well, I have until my invite arrives in the mail to decide.

In today’s inbin:

Thanks for your continuing interest in organ donation and transplantation. Below you’ll find a link to the latest news from the United Network for Organ Sharing.

National Marathon to Benefit Organ Donation

The SunTrust Marathon is the first-ever national marathon to officially honor transplant recipients and donor families, and promote the increasing need for organ and tissue donation. This year’s event is an exciting opportunity for supporters of donation and transplantation to participate as runners, spectators and volunteers.

If there’s any local runners interested, I’ll be glad to provide more information, and perhaps even some sponsorship.

I have just discovered that Disney is preparing to film Adam’s “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.” I fear the Disney treatment will absolutely ruin this classic. Still, like with Thunderbirds, it’s like an impending car crash. You know it’s going to be nasty, but you just can’t look away. It’s supposed to be released sometime next year. That and Star Wars episode three should provide sufficient anticlimax for 2005.

  1. The "Hitch-hikers" movie has been on-again off-again for years. Adams was very keen; it’s the main reason he moved to the US.

I wasn’t that positive at first, as I love the clunky old series (which we have on DVD). But now I’m torn between looking forward to it and dreading it.

Arthur Dent is to be played by one of the main actors in "The Office", the BBC comedy series I’ve raved about. So that’s one bright spot. Bill Nighy is another bright spot.

Not exactly "preparing to film", dear girl. Principal filming has finished, according to imdb.

  2. While indoor doggie booties are a good idea, I have enough troubles getting the dogs to hold still once I reach for their feet to trim their nails. I shudder to think of the fit they would have if I tried to put "shoes" on them!

  3. Hmm, I still haven’t read the Hitchhiker’s Guide, have to remember to read it sometime during this year. I have an endless list of books to read, I actually had to deny myself spending time in the school library this week because every time I go there I grab more and more books and there’s no way I can read all the interesting books in the world during 10 months or even during my life. God, how frustrating.

I hope they show you on telly!
