Hot Toddy and Hope

• 1 jigger bourbon
• 1 tablespoon mild honey
• 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
• 1/4 cup boiling-hot water

Last night I substituted Splenda for the honey, since that is what I had in the house. It doesn’t cure the common cold, but it sure makes you care less about it.

The cold has settled into a somewhat amicable stand-off with me. It isn’t making me too sick to do anything, but it’s making me sick enough that I don’t want to do anything. The coughing and sneezing has been sufficient that I’ve pulled a few muscles in my right side, though I’ll admit I’m surprised at that, since the cough hasn’t been all that bad. The cold is mostly just a nuisance, but it keeps me crabby because of sleep deprivation.

I do need to keep an eye on things, since I remain on immunosuppressants. At one time there was some hope that I could eventually be weaned off of those, but my episode of rejection three years ago means that this won’t be possible now. After over seven years on the immunosuppressants though, I can honestly say that I’ve only had two illnesses that were made worse by them (the T-Cell lymphoma, and the cellulitis I was hospitalized with two summers ago). It’s unlikely the cold is going to do more to me than make Christmas a whit less holly-jolly.

In other news, Satan’s Little Fart Cloud’s days of rockin’ the jailhouse may be numbered. Yesterday we cultured her to see if there are any little ringworm spores hanging in there. We should get the results in two weeks. If the results come back negative, then we culture one more time. If those results are negative, then SLFC finally gets out of quarantine. In the meantime, feel free to tie a yellow ribbon round the old cat tree.
