Trivial Pursuit

The Professor and I have taken to playing Trivial Pursuit, Genus III, in the evenings. An ignominious defeat we suffered against another couple over the Memorial Day weekend brought the TP bug to the surface again. We’ve played three times in the past week. I trounced him in one game, he trounced me in another, and last night’s third game was a very close squeaker that I won by pure luck (he keeps giving me sports questions for my last question, and I despise sports).

We went to Borders bookstore over the weekend. I hadn’t intended to purchase anything, but I wandered into the CD section “just to look” and wandered out again with a two CD compilation by Electric Bonsai and Eliza Carthy’s new one in hand. At least I forced myself to put down Kirsty MacColl’s new one before I inflicted too much damage. I also got a nice looking and relatively inexpensive travel book on New Zealand. I am determined to go next year.

I found out last week I have to run some pathology samples down to New Bolton tomorrow. I’m already plotting how to make this a full day affair out of the office. I don’t think I’ll be able to pull that off, but I am going to try and make as much of a day of it as I can. I’d like to talk to the vet who runs the Path department there, who has kind of taken my under his wing, and bend his ear about my career concerns.

Goal for the week: Get the first draft of chapter one written. I don’t care if it has to be rewritten and then rewritten again to get any kind of polish on it. I don’t care if it’s trash and I end up not using any of it. All I intend is a first step. I’d like to have that first step taken before my 45th birthday. As good a goal as any, I suppose.

  1. i seriously doubt at times i will ever finish another writing project. The band has put a serious strain on all of my creative outlets that are not band-related.

Until further notice, my beloved worlds will orbit around the vacuum of my head.

i am certain you will have better luck than i have.

  2. Unfortunately, I’m with Moonman. I can’t tell you how many "novels" I’ve started over the years, and how many chapters I have for different stories stuffed in my file cabinet. The sad thing is like Moonman said, I now have time for nothing but work and my music. Not that I would give up the music for anything, but I still have plans to write that novel! It’s a dream that will come true someday, when time allows. Good luck with your writing. Let us know how the first chapter goes!
