A Modest Proposal.
It’s early days. But, under the crumpled debris of two 100+ storied buildings there will be bodies that are unrecoverable. There are bodies that no longer exist, incinerated or scattered in pieces.
The rescue work must continue now, while there is a chance of recovering survivors. But, after there can be no hope, we need to make a decision as to what comes next.
The recovery of bodies will become increasingly dangerous, risking additional lives. There is talk of rebuilding the towers, to show that America cannot be kept down. But who will want to build there, and who would want to work there, on the death pyre of thousands?
I’m hoping that they might consider making this site a memorial. Bury the remains of those who cannot be found in New York at the place they worked in and loved. Make this a site of beauty and rest, to commemorate their lives, the lives of the crew and passengers of the planes, and the lives of the rescuers first on the scene. Put a memorial on this spot, as they did in Pearl Harbor where the Arizona sank. Make a memorial like the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC. Put something there that says “Never again”.
I don’t have anything to say just wanted to stop by and say I care.
Mister Moonman is at a near loss for words. You are a true friend, Salamander.

hi Salamander,
your idea for a memorial sounds appropriate and makes sense. i knew some of the construction workers who helped build the towers, family of an old boyfriend…
thanks for being the voice of reason, for me anyway…you have a comforting quality in the way you comment. i appreciate it.
