The Snow has Ended.

Of course, all that means is that the fun now begins in earnest. The Socialist is again outside, shovelling, as are many of our neighbors. We’re running out of places to put the snow though! The piles are getting so high it’s difficult to toss the next shovelful to the top.

While the snow has stoppped, the wind has not, and the air still fills with snow once in a while when the gusts really get going. The television claimed the sun had come out not far south of us, but I see no sign of the clouds breaking around here yet. I just noticed that as I’m typing this a very fine snow has begun to fall again. I don’t expect this to amount to anything, nor to last for any significant period of time.

A picture from my front door taken at 1:00 this afternoon:

The maintenance people have been by already, cleaning off our front steps and where possible getting the snowblower between cars to help people dig out. They’ve been very diligent about keeping our stairs and walkways clear.

Digging out my car is going to be another matter though:

The snow drifted up the back of it to the trunk, and I fear that a fair amount of snow may have gotten underneath my car as well. To be honest, I don’t really see how things are going to be dug out in time to get to work tomorrow, but we’ll see how it goes.

Meanwhile, Kitten is having a field day. So much excitement! So many people outside her window doing interesting things! So much new to stare at! Here she is, watching the snowblower guy trying to clear away the mounds of snow the plow left behind our cars:

The O’Beast isn’t nearly as impressed by all the goings on outside, and has returned to his cat-sling for a snooze. He’s been there for hours, with no sign that he’s even alive except for the occasional ear-twitch. At least Kitten has other matters to keep her occupied, so he can enjoy this endless siesta of his.

Jutta doesn’t even go near the windows. It’s cold over there, after all. She’s decided to assume meatloaf position in the middle of the floor of my computer room and watch the two numbskulls at the window sill. I actually believe she secretly envies them, but doesn’t want to show any cracks in her austere reserve by emulating them.

Finally, the Kitten’s new favorite vantage point – from atop my Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary. Now if only some of the information from the dictionary would diffuse by osmosis into her, giving her a few extra IQ points. Maybe then she’d stop pulling stunts like stealing my watch.

  1. I have enjoyed viewing your snow pictures and have even attempted to find my own camera.

I believe we have more snow than you do?

Hang in there cause Spring is right around the corner! *smile*

  2. Oh, those pictures are torment of the worst kind! The kid in me want’s snow like that heree so badly! I don’t mind driving in it, but usually when it snows like that we just stay home and playin the snow, drink lots of hot chocolate or hot tang, bundle everyone up in blankets and play board games indoors with the kids.

Somehow doing these things when there is no snow outside just isn’t the same!

  3. I just talked to my brother. They have only a foot of snow so far, but he says it’s still coming down very hard in north NJ. Probably 18-20" would be my guess for his neck of the woods. Luckily, they have an empty spot where my car used to be to throw all the snow.

  4. Thank you for sharing your pictures. It brings back fun snow memories. I know it’s a pain, but I truly would love to live where it snows again. I think sometimes we need to be slowed down a little by being "snowed" in.
