Health Fair, Hair & Butt Aroma?

Yesterday at work the nausea became so overwhelming that I had to leave early. That’s the first time I’ve had to leave work ill since all of this started, and I’m annoyed at myself for having ruined a perfect track record there. When I started doing my afternoon visits to the departments that I collect paperwork from I soon realized though that I had the option of embarrassing myself in public, or trying to make it home and being ill in the privacy of my own bathroom. I opted for the latter. As it was, I hadn’t been able to eat much yesterday, so there was no stomach contents to lose.

I went straight to bed and slept about three hours, but woke still nauseous. The feeling persisted throughout most of the night, and I got blessed little sleep after that. Of course, this was the morning I’d volunteered to help at the company’s Health Fair, so there was no sleeping in to try to catch up on lost “z’s”. I did feel somewhat better when I headed back to work this morning though, and by noon the queasiness had vanished again.

Our company runs an annual health fair that distributes free information and health related goodies to employees. All sorts of different organizations related to health and fitness set up booths, and the company sponsors bloodwork that screens for basic problems for the employees and their spouses. They had me helping at the health suite, assisting with paperwork and labeling blood tubes. All the fourth year vet school peon work came finally proved to be valuable, since that’s basically what half the clinicians at school had you doing.

To my surprise, the fair this year was very poorly attended. Part of the reason might have been the light rain that fell intermittently all morning, but I was still surprised at how few people attended. I took advantage of my break time to visit our health insurance company representative, the company emergency medical fund representative and the organ donation awareness booth that was there. I made some valuable contacts, and got some good information, so it was a morning well-spent, even at the loss of valuable sleep-in time.

After the fair ended, I headed to my hairdresser’s for my now regularly scheduled trim and color touch up. She did my hair a little differently this time, and once again I’m really pleased with the results, though once again I’ll be totally incapable of reproducing them. Still, I can bask in the glory of looking good today while the look is fresh and unsullied by being smashed on a pillow.

And finally: the search engines hits continue to give me pause to wonder. “Turtle tank” remains the number one way that people stumble across my diary from the web. However, I got one hit yesterday that was so non sequitor that I had to check it twice to make sure I wasn’t misreading it. Apparently searching using the MSN search engine turns up my diary if you use the key words “butt” and “aroma”. When I found what page it led to, I had to assume that my would-be kinky-fetishist left disappointed. At least, I hope he did.

  1. Just for fun, I did an MSN search for "butt aroma" and indeed, one of the first things there was your diary! It took me to your September 19, 2002 entry entitled Mr. Butt. I just thought I’d check it out and see.

    Have a fun weekend,

  2. If you read at work, do like I do and turn off your sound before hand!

The #1 search parameter that hits my diary continues to be "Hump Day". Yesterday though, I got one for "I Love Kermie". I guess it just goes to show you that people will look for any strange or blase item on the internet.

  3. You’re surprised that people don’t want to get up early, take showers, shave, put on makeup and decent "out in public" clothes, and slog through the rain and mud to go to where they work, to get jabbed with needles, pinched with calipers and blood pressure cuffs, and told everything they eat and most everything they do is going to make them sick and die, and all of this on their precious day off? LOL!!! I am surprised anyone ever goes to these things. Insulated plastic commuter mugs not withstanding.

  4. If thats the first time you had to leave early, then I think you are being a wee tough on yourself!! LOL

Why do people go to a fair to have check up?? Isn’t that what a doctor’s is for? *scratches head*

What colour are you?? I have funny images going through my head,LOL Im going to try streaks when I get my hair cut, and if it looks ok, maybe see if I can get permanent ones.

  5. I agree, it is definitely better to be ill in the privacy of one’s own bathroom.

    Hope the nausea passes soon.

Butt aroma…I best not comment on that. Some things are best left unsaid. 😉
