I want ice cream.
Working hard. Hardly working. I’m not entirely sure how both can be simultaneously true, but then I love a good oxymoron. Today is a jumbo shrimp kind of day.
Yesterday’s seminars went well. Free breakfast was a bust, and the boxed lunches they provided failed to excite as well. Still, what did I expect for free? I knew one of the afternoon speakers, and we ate our boxed lunch together and spoke of items that have been in the national news that affect our area of specialty. When she gave her talk later in the afternoon, she mentioned me by name. Twice. Ordinarily I’m not enthusiastic about that kind of recognition, but if I’m seriously thinking about putting my resume out there, it can’t hurt to have a nationally recognized speaker holding you up as an example.
My friend, Dr. Nineteen Cats, went to the seminar with me. We made plans to attend a two-day conference in The Big City together. I live within easy striking distance of the conference, and told her she could stay over at our apartment while the conference is going on. She has to drive down from upstate (nearly a three hour drive) and this should save her some time and money. Besides, I like having her around.
Today was an employee appreciation luncheon. The company gave everyone a free meal of pork roast, rice, corn, roll and eclaire for lunch. They usually have cheesecake when they give us lunches. I don’t like cheesecake, so the eclaire was a welcome change. They also gave away about a dozen gift certificates at random. I didn’t win anything. The eclair was good though.
A quick note to the couple of you who asked me to do interviews for you: please consider asking one of the eight people who requested an interview from me to do your interview. If you really want, I’ll do yours, but I know that the people who asked me for interviews will be eager to write interviews themselves, and I don’t want to take any of the fun away from them.
