You know you’re old when …

… You’re talking to a twenty-something with two kids of her own, mention Phyllis Diller in passing, and get this question: “Is she someone who works in another department?”

The first one of you who responds with “Phyllis who?” will get a really nasty look from me.

  1. I had to explain Phyllis Diller to my kids a few years ago. The description of "A comedian/actress who styled her hair with an egg beater" and showing her profile on imdb gave them a better idea. Fortunately they remembered her from when she was on 7th Heaven, so that was that.

Of course then I had to explain to them what an egg beater was.

  2. P.S. The banner about Picard/Riker under your entry reminds me. I’m sure you’ve heard about the upcoming Star Trek movie, about the classic Trek characters when they were young. Did you know Karl Urban (Eomer in LOTR) is playing McCoy? I’ll be curious to hear a U.S. southern accent come out of his mouth. (I’m also hoping there will be opportunities in the plot for him to take off his shirt.)

  3. I love Phyllis Diller, she is an icon. Someone actually said "Is she someone who works in another department?"? How funny, guess I’m old to. Hugs, Richard

  4. LOL!! I had a moment like that in a music store, I asked for a CD from the Commodores. The girl looked at me like I was from outter space then asked the manager who indicated that the CD could be found in the "archives room". Neither of them realized that the Red Hot Chili Peppers did a remake of "Love Roller Coaster". Sad, very sad.

This cracked me up…thanks for the chuckle. Have a great day!

  5. Thanks for reminding me how old I am. Phyllis Diller was one of my favorite comedians right along with Bill Cosby and Moms Mabley. Have a wonderful day and remember to share a smile with someone who needs one.
