An even worse job

Salamander Jeopardy time.

Answer: An even nastier job that needs doing.

Question: What’s the best way to get inspired to take on a nasty job?

Yup, it finally (temporarily) stopped raining this afternoon. This morning I had picked up two month’s supply of Flagyl for two cats at my vet, and was sitting at the kitchen table quartering 60 tablets when the sun finally broke through. It was so nice and unexpected that I pulled the slats open on the deck door to enjoy a dose of real sunlight. Of course I was confronted with [insert shrieking violin Psycho music here]The Dismembered Legs.

Let it be known that I absolutely loathe quartering Flagyl tablets. They’re crumbly and they leave dust everywhere and you need to be really exacting with the pill cutter or you end up with a pile of Flagyl powder (useless) instead of a quartered Flagyl tablet(useful, though difficult to insert into a cat)(which is an entirely different saga). It takes a little over 40 minutes for me to quarter this many pills if I want to make sure that I don’t ruin any. Since money still doesn’t grow on trees, I need to make sure I don’t ruin any.

So there I was, confronted with a pile of Flagyl tablets that required quartering, or a set of fly-covered bird legs that required removing. The bird legs won. If I had known what I was in for, though, I’m thinking that I’d have kept on flagellating the Flagyl.

Apparently our mystery messy muncher did more than leave bird legs behind. In the garden there were two bird wings, and several clumps of feathers. I cleaned those up as well, though I’ll admit that I didn’t go searching for more remains. There’s no way I wanted to discover a head buried beneath the Campanella leaves.

About thirty seconds after I finished, the skies opened up again. I ran inside, washed my hands like Lady Macbeth, and am now about to return to drawing and quartering Flagyl.

Ah, the busy life of an intergalactic despot.
