Perspective on my job.

No, candle, my job is not nearly as heinous as J’s. That doesn’t necessarily mean I’m here for the long haul though. And regardless of whether or not I stick it out at the current job, I’m writing. J did give me a good idea to follow up on though. I’ve been concerned that, if I wait too long, my veterinary license won’t be easily transportable to other states because I’m not in active practice. She pointed out that you don’t need state residency to be licensed in a state, so if I was thinking about moving to another state I should get licensed there now. It will be a little pricey, but it’s a case of an ounce of prevention saving me a pound of cure. I plan to talk to The Professor about what states we’d seriously consider moving to, and getting licenses in them before summer end.

The chapter isn’t done, but I still have tomorrow before I make a liar of myself. My problem is that I keep going back and revising without completing. I know it’s a waste of time, the moral equivalent of adding new coats of paint to the shutters without getting around to putting a base coat on the rest of the house. But do be doing and writing feels good enough that I’ll forgive myself the small transgressions for the time being.

You asked previously if you’d be seeing any of it. Eventually, probably though I’m not sure about sticking it out on OpenFiction. I’ll need something to show before it goes out. At this point, I don’t even want to say that much about it, since the premise shifts in my hands even as I try to pin it down. If I don’t put anything out on the web, I’ll at least send you and a couple of others some e-mail though.

  1. Ha! Yeah, talking with someone else about job woes often does put things in perspective. Every time i start to complain about my job, i try to remember all of the great perks i have here…and suddenly it’s not quite as bad.

i’m glad you and your friend got to hang out.

    Have a great weekend!

  2. So you’re thinking your job’s not so bad now, eh? Funny how hearing about someone else’s troubles will do that for ya! So does this mean you are putting the writing career ambitions aside for now? Or have you finished that chapter?

  3. Its always nice to get in touch with old friends. Thats what I’ll be doing when I’m in Maine. Seeing old friends and saying goodbye to them when we leave. Although its going to be very hard, we have to let go sometime, but we will never forget.

Good luck with your chapter. Hope everything goess well for you. I’m sure it’ll turn out very well.

    Well,till next time,Bye!! ~Alaina

  4. I look forward to receiving the first of the promised chapter emails! I already enjoy your writing style, so I’m sure whatever the premise, it’ll be good.

Sounds like a great idea getting licensed in different states just to be safe. So I guess CA will be one of those, eh? Who knows, maybe we’ll end up being neighbors there and not even know it!

    Stranger things have happened.

Good luck with both the writing & the vet licenses.

And thanks for your comment earlier… it’s nice to be told you’re "impressive"! Made my day!

  5. Hi Salamander. Thanks for the comment in my diary the other day, I’ve been meaning to check your’s out sooner but I’ve just been so busy here lately. I went back and read your welcome page and several other entries. You were married a long time before you got your divorce. That really took some courage on your part. Here I’m supposed to be "Leo the lion" and I lack that courage. Good luck to you.
