WooHoo! Got a Site Meter!

Adding the meter didn’t turn out to be nearly as straightforward as I thought it would be. I’ve installed site meters before on web sites, and it’s perfectly a perfectly straitforward cut-and-paste job there. What should have been a simple cut-and-paste project here turned into a semi-complicated debug (OK, at least it was semi-complicated for a self-taught moron like myself). For some reason, DearDiary’s editor kept inserting breaks in the middle of the Java Script, which meant that the meter wouldn’t run.

When I finally discovered what was wrong, it took me a while to figure out how to delete the breaks, since they wasn’t anything I was inputing, but a gift from the editor after I hit submit. I’ve finally got the meter running in the Footer and on my Welcome page, but the trick isn’t working on the Index page for some reason. I’ll mess around with it some more when I get home.

  2. I’ve found a few of those mysterious cat turd’s myself… usually in the hallway. I think sometimes they stick to the cats’ fur and fall off in inappropriate places. How nice, eh? LOL

  3. I dont want to sound simplistic here…and you’ve probably already tried it..but just adding it to the footer wont add it to the index page..you have to actually edit the index page…*S*

  4. Oh, the first thing I did was paste it into the Index, Welcome and Footer text boxes. That’s when the <BR>’s inserted themselves into places they didn’t belong. I deleted and readded spaces where the breaks had appeared on View Source, and that fixed the Welcome page and the footer. For some reason, even though I’ve tried it twice in the Index page, the meter continues to fail to display.

When I get home, I’m going to paste the code into WordPad, make sure that there are no unwanted breaks anywhere, and then move it to the index page to see if that does the trick.

  5. …and you thought I was a moron when I said the site meter was difficult! LOL!

Congratulations on getting up and running (in at least 2 of the desired places) all by yourself! You are definately less of a moron than I! LMAO!
