Is it Friday yet?

I had an asthma attack in my office this morning. It wasn’t as bad as some I’ve had, but when I reached into my briefcase for my inhaler IT WASN’T THERE! I was going to just try to wait it out, but I was online with the Professor at the time, and he ran my inhaler over to work for me. He said he had to go to the bank and return a video anyhow, but it was nice of him to drop everything and rush out like that. Let this be a lesson to me to be more careful about keeping the inhaler with me, though.

On his current schedule, the Professor is asleep when I get home from work, so I have evenings to myself for the next few days. Last night I spent time scanning and resizing photos from the Boston Duck Tour I took. I’m planning on putting a photo report together for the forum I participate in. I’ll upload some of the photoes to my Dear Diary Photo Album as well, so that anybody who is interested here can see them also. I haven’t decided if I’m going to include any photos of myself or not on the DD photo album, but none will be on the photo report.

I’ve invited the sisters over for dinner on Tuesday to meet the new kitten and go over cat care instructions for when I’m gone. The kitten is supposed to get booster shots while I’m away – I don’t know if I have the guts to ask one of them to cart her to the vet’s or not. The kitten also needs her final oral dose of antihelminthic while I’m gone, and I know the sisters won’t be up to that, so maybe I can get them to combine that with the booster updates. They’ll also have to be shown how to give George his heart medication, and I’ll need to emphasize that they have to be consistent as to what time of day he gets his pill. I can just see them giving him one pill at night and the second the next morning, thereby overdosing him on his beta-blocker. I wanted to get a vet friend to apartment sit for the week we’ll be away, but the Professor did NOT like the idea. I suppose if the tables were reversed I wouldn’t have been thrilled about having a friend of his come to the apartment unsupervised for a week either, but it would have been a great answer to the cat care problems, having a veterinarian right there with them while we were away.

I spoke with the Professor about looking into a job with USDA so that he could move back to California. He was, surprisingly, not enthusiastic about it, saying he wasn’t ready to move back yet. I was under the impression that he wanted to go back sooner rather than later. Ironically, I notice in the most recent JAVMA (Journal of the American Verinary Medical Association) that USDA is paying hiring bonuses for people who apply for certain positions in California (can’t imagine why, since I would have thought CA would have been one of the more popular choices). Still, it looks like I’ll be at my current job for a while now, unless either the Professor or my company changes their minds about things. Then again, USDA has positions open in PA as well, and they are paying bonuses here too. Problem is, if I pursue this now, and take a position in PA, I’ll be locked into PA for a while. I don’t think I want to do that quite yet.

  1. When are you off for your trip to CA? My boss is going next week… wish I was going too! 🙁

By the way… who’s George? I’m assuming an animal, but I don’t remember you mentioning him before and I’ve never heard of animals taking beta-blockers! I’m curious now!

Can’t wait to see the pics either!

  2. Oops. George, code named "The Clueless Wonder". I’ll have to get around to fixing that one of these days. Wouldn’t do to have any real names exposed in this journal!

He has enlarged heart walls, which make the chambers of his heart too small. This makes the heart pump faster, trying to compensate for being unable to pump as much blood as it should. Unfortunately, sometimes the heart over-compensates, and beats too fast, before it even has a chance to completely fill. The heart simply fights itself then, since the faster it beats, the less blood it pumps. The beta blockers slow the heart rate down to an acceptable level.

  3. Awh, the Professor sounds like a nice guy, to run your inhaler over to you.. I love it when my guy does sweet little things like that, even more than the big things, ya know??

Hey, thanks for the insight about my headaches.. I was actually wondering if they were migranes, but I don’t know anything about migranes so I didn’t know what to think.. I think I’ll call the doc, because whatever they are, they suck! LOL!
