Moby Dick in the Gym Pool

Yup, it’s three in the bloody a.m. and I’m awake. Again. The novelty has worn off of this insomnia.

As soon as I give up on sleep and leave the bedroom, the kitten is by my side. The other two cats know I’m awake, but could care less. They will take advantage of it come 5:30 though if I’m still awake, and come begging an early breakfast. The kitten looks up at me through freshly awakened eyes, squinting and yawning and begging for lap time. As soon as I settle in at the computer, she’s settled in on the window-sill hammock, and back to sleep. If I move to another room, she’ll awaken and follow me though. It’s rather like having a puppy.

Mr. Butts and Tattoo Lady moved out this weekend. It will be nice to be able to stop worrying about the stubs he heaves into my garden, but in some odd way I’m going to miss them. I’m running out of people to pick on around here. They had a long-haired black cat that occasionally came visiting in our garden (even though you aren’t supposed to allow your cats to roam loose here), giving all three of my little wonders something to gawk and hiss at. It wasn’t as good as Mr. Squirrel, but it was still something. Looks like the kids are going to have to find other entertainment as well.

Joined the gym that the Socialist goes to this evening. Before I work out I’ll be spending some time with one of their trainers though. Since I now fall into the category of a “special needs” case, I’m going to require some help tailoring a program to what my doctor is looking for. The people at the gym that I spoke to tonight didn’t seem too fazed by my medical history though, and were pushing aquatic aerobics. Blah. That means a bathing suit. I’m only a little bloated right now, so it wouldn’t be too bad, but in a couple of weeks putting me in a bathing suit will be the equivalent of putting in a beeper alert to Captain Ahab to bring his harpoon to the pool. Thar’ she blows! The great white whale in captivity. Hell, I’d need three different sizes of bathing suit to get me through a four week period.

Watched the first two parts of I, Claudius tonight. The poor Socialist is a bit lost – the plot does move rather quickly and you have to pick up on a lot of non-spoken cues to keep track of all that’s happening. I’m giving him pointers where I can, though, and he seems to be enjoying it. At this rate we’ll be through it by the end of the week.

Tomorrow I get my hepatits A&B booster. I also need to try and straighten out the problem with my name at the State’s Veterinary Licensing Board. I can’t believe that those idiots went so far out of their way to create this problem. I have to return the video we rented Saturday (“Changing Lanes” – nothing special) which I’ll do on the way to the doctor’s. And I need to finish my paperwork for the big hospital visit on October 14th. Once I get through tomorrow, my days should slow down a bit. I’m looking forward to that.
