Incarcerated.

As usual, nothing is straight-forward. My stand-in doctor decided that I should be hospitalized, so I got to go straight to Admissions from his office (Do not pass “Go”, do not collect $200.). A chest x-ray, a tummy-tap (four liters this time, accumulated in two weeks), four boluses of antibiotic, and eight respiratory treatments with a nebulizer later and I was deemed well enough to return home on my own recognizance. I’m on antibiotics for another five days at home, and not allowed to return to work until Monday. My Boss is going to have a shit-fit; I promised him that when I came back to work I wasn’t going to be missing any further blocks of weeks.

It also turns out that while I’m on antibiotics I’m considered too ill to under transplant surgery, so my name temporarily comes off the transplant waiting list until I’ve completed the regimen. This stupid thing gets more and more complicated.

In my absence, Catitude was diagnosed with an impacted anal gland that subsequently became infected. They drained and flushed it, and put her on antibiotics. Pilling Catitude, according to The Socialist, is akin to pilling a crocodile. You can get the pill down her throat, but only because your fingers are still attached to it. Makes me glad I wasn’t home, since I have a nasty feeling that duty would have fallen to the in-house veterinarian had she been available.

Speaking of the Socialist, his 31st birthday is in six days. I’ve gotten him the Episode II DVD and the extended Lord of the Rings DVD “collector’s DVD pack” that includes the Argonath bookends and some extra DVD footage. Now I just need to get some appropriate wrapping paper. You’d think the Sad-Sack was turning thirty again, the way he’s mourning his passage to 31. Little does he seem to realize that the best is just beginning.

I’ll have to get some pictures of Catitude in her “Cone of Silence” for my next update. Bonus points for the first one who remembers where “Cone of Silence” originated from.

  1. Was the origin with WASP? I know that was one of the terms they used. Can’t remember the ‘why’ or ‘what for’, but it has something to do with flying, if I remember correctly?? (Of course wasn’t that the main gist of WASP?? lol – Jeeezzz, I’m showing my true knowledge now!) I’m a big WW2 buff. 🙂

As for giving Catitude the pill…I have to give my cat a daily pill for her asthma (didn’t know until she was diagnosed that they had this too, and I’m pretty sure it’s called something entirely different, asthma is just easier to remember) and it was horrible trying to get it down at first until the vet suggested to get it in her mouth, blow in her nose, and rub her throat. Seems as if the combination of blowing in her nose which makes her ‘catch her breath’ and rubbing her throat which makes her swallow makes it easier giving the pill to her because it’s down before she knows what happened. Just a suggestion that you might already know about.

Sorry you’re having more ills. Still keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!

  2. Glad to hear it was a fast hospital stay. 4 liters!

Wanna trade an anal gland abscess for a hot spot on the tail of a K9? My golden looks like he has a rat tail after I shaved the area.

Regarding being 31—you are right, the best is yet to come!

  3. Now when you don’t update for a few days I don’t know if you’ve gone for a little vacation or are in the hospital. And here I thought I had a rough start to my week.

    Get better!
