Free lunch. And a song in my heart.

There is such a thing as a free lunch. The company Christmas lunch is tomorrow. Roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans almondine and cheese cake with topping for dessert is the menu. Bonus checks get handed out at the same time. I think I already spent mine on my car’s headlight assembly. I haven’t decided if I’m going to be bad and eat lunch with everyone, or look bad and carry my lunch bag in. The roast beef is pre-marinated and probably is way over my salt limit. Ah well, it’s the thought that counts.

The deal has been struck – The Socialist and I are going to see next Wednesday’s midnight showing of The Two Towers. I have to put in a six day work week, so I’ll just go in late on Thursday and make up the time Saturday. No problem. I’m glad we’ll get to see it together before he leaves. I’d have felt terrible sneaking out to see it on my own while he was in California.

I’ve been busy at work trying to steal back all my desk items that the Vultures appropriated while I was out on short term disability. Certain items like staples, small post-its, hole punchers and manilla folders are in short supply, so certain opportunists took advantage of my absence to liberate these and a few other items from my desk. Fortunately, at my end of the building, there is a limited array of possible culprits. Evidently none of them realized that I mark my supplies with a piece of scotch tape on the bottom. I’ve retrieved everything but the small post-its, which weren’t marked. I also know who not to trust from here on out.

Finally, because I can’t leave well enough alone:

Dream Liver

with apologies to Bobby Darin

Every night I hope and pray

a dream liver will come my way

A liver to replace the old

and work again, as good as gold

’cause I want (yeah-yeah yeah)

some lobes (yeah-yeah yeah)

to call (yeah-yeah yeah)

my own (yeah-yeah)

I want a dream liver

that won’t quit, leaving me alone.

Dream liver,

where are you

with your enzymes oh, so true

And your bile

that helps digest,

I long to feel you ‘neath my breast.

’cause I want (yeah-yeah yeah)

Some lobes (yeah-yeah yeah)

to call (yeah-yeah yeah)

my own (yeah-yeah)

I want a dream liver

that won’t quit, leaving me alone.

Someday, I don’t know how,

Someone will hear my plea

Some way, I don’t know how,

My brand new liver will come to me

Dream liver,

until then,

I’ll go to sleep and dream again

That’s the only thing to do,

till all my liver dreams come true

’cause I want (yeah-yeah yeah)

some lobes (yeah-yeah yeah)

to call (yeah-yeah yeah)

my own (yeah-yeah)

I want a dream liver

that won’t quit, leaving me alone.

Dream liver, until then,

I’ll go to sleep and dream again

That’s the only thing to do,

till all my liver dreams come true

’cause I want (yeah-yeah yeah)

Some lobes (yeah-yeah yeah)

to call (yeah-yeah yeah)

my own (yeah-yeah)

I wanna dream liver

that won’t quit, leaving me alone.

Please don’t make me dream alone

I beg you don’t make me dream alone

No, I don’t wanna dream

  2. I think you have been tight enough with your diet to splurge abit.

Your song is very good. Maybe you missed your calling as a song writer? Perhaps it should be included in the A & P book?

    It’s 1am. I’m off to bed.
