Snowy Day in Pictures

We went down to center city to meet the Socialist’s aunt and uncle for dinner. We ended up eating at a nearby Chinese restaurant on the edge of Chinatown. I did this with some trepidations, since Chinese meals tend to be loaded with sodium, but I figured I could order steamed vegetables on white rice. It turned out that this was not necessary. There were some excellent low-sodium choices to pick from – I ended up with South Sea vegetables in a soy basket, and it was delicious. I hadn’t slept well the night before though, and it was absolutely frigid out, so I was glad when the evening wound to an end.

I made up for lost sleep last night – I slept nearly twelve hours and woke up feeling more refreshed than I have for quite a while. As a bonus, soon after I got up I received a phone call from work. We’re closed tomorrow due to the snow. Of course, there was bad news to go with the good; we’ll have to make up the lost day by working next Saturday. I intend to enjoy my day off as much as possible to make up for the one day weekend I’ll be facing.

And it is indeed snowing. It’s been coming down since I woke up, and the accumulation is slow but steady. Some of the stations say we’ll get up to a couple of feet of the stuff. I’ve been taking pictures out my door at regular intervals to monitor the progress of the storm, and the build up has been impressive.

A snow plow made a few passes through our parking lot earlier today, but he hasn’t been by in a few hours now and his work is rapidly being obliterated by continued accumulations. When the plows finally get down to work in earnest, I fear that our cars will be buried completely by them.

The cats have all found different places throughout the apartment to laze about and enjoy the slow day. Kitten can’t make up her mind whether or not to stare at the flakes through the window, and alternates between the window sill and the cat tree. Here she’s strking one of her “ain’t I just the cutest thing” poses on the second tier of the cat tree:

Cattitude has found the best of both world: a warm place to snuggle with a view of the snow. She’s shown here kneading the cat bed she’s stolen from the O’Beast and looking imperious:

The O’Beast spent the daylight hours in the cat sill hammock, but bailed when the sun started to go down and the hammock got cool. I think he’s on the twin bed in the Socialist’s computer room, continuing the nap he was taking throughout most of the afternoon.

And now, my favorite story of the day. The Socialist and I were in the kitchen, making lunch, when The Socialist exclaimed, “That guy has nothing but a bathrobe on and bare feet!” Well, strictly speaking, the guy didn’t have bare feet; he was shod with well-worn, tan colored slippers. They were mule-style slippers, with no heels, and at that point there were at least four or five inches on the ground. He tossed some trash in the dumpster, ran out to his car, grabbed something, and ran back towards his apartment. I belatedly recalled that I had my camera nearby, and quickly got a few shots in of his exit from the parking lot. The lad evidentally had left his dry cleaning in the car – perhaps those were the only clothes he owned. I have to say, had I been clad as he was under those conditions, I bet that (even in my present feeble condition) I’d have moved a whole hell of a lot faster than he did.
