Lost News and Office Music

I see I screwed up the dates on Monday’s and yesterday’s entry. Typical. There are days I shouldn’t be allowed out without a chaperone.

So Bush is doing something other than war-mongering these days. I see that yesterday he signed off on legistlation that would create a national “do not call” list. Charities, surveys and police departments would be exempt, so I guess I’m still going to get that annual call from the local Sheriff’s association asking for my opinions on how good a job I feel they’re doing before they hit me up for their annual fund raising campaign. Since that would cut the number of calls down from several hundred to one or two per year, I think I can handle that. According to the article I read, they will be providing the ability to sign up for the do not call list on-line, so I’ll have to keep my eyes open.

The current war drums have been playing so loudly on the television and radio that it appears newscasters have lost sight of the rest of the orchestra. I discovered just today that there has been another Ebola outbreak in the Congo. It’s been going on for over a month, with one hundred people dead in that time and two thirds of the gorillas in a nearby reserve also dead. There hasn’t been a peep in any of the news services that I’m aware of; I ran across the reference in a professional newsletter I get. I ran across a story in a foreign newspaper about two New Zealand telecom chief executive officers decided to settle a dispute outside of court by employing a best two-out-of-three arm-wrestling match. They apparently decided that if they persisted in trying to solve their dispute through the court system the only winners would be the lawyers. They instead decided to settle the matter mano-et-mano. It seems as if they did this good-naturedly and will abide by the results. Would that more disputes could be solved so sanely.

OK, enough with the politics. Let’s talk about my favorite subject. Me.

I currently have no CD player in my office. When they replaced my laptop with a PC, I lost the software to play CD’s in my computer. While I listen to a good deal of NPR while at my desk, there comes a point when I want some music. The Socialist has suggested I take the boom box in that I currently have out in the kitchen, but truth be told, I use the CD player in the kitchen several times a week as well, and don’t want to “rob Peter to pay Paul”. I recalled last night that my elder sister had given me a Sony car ready CD player for Christmas, under the mistaken belief I didn’t have a CD player in my car. It’s the kind that has the attachment that plugs into the tape player, and I figured that if this would work in the car, it should work with the tape player in the boom box in my office. Can we say “wrong” boys and girls? Yet another brilliant idea of mine ends up stillborn. It seemed a really brilliant idea at the time, though.

Imagine seeing a skunk like that…About 10 years ago I woke up after having a bad dream with a terrible odor. Turns out the odor is what woke me up and it was very real. A skunk had sprayed the perimeter of our old house. It was horrible and we ending up pitching a tent for a few days till it faded. Luckily it was summer.

  2. I always did like skunks 🙂

  3. Are you certain you won’t take up the kind offer of a half a liver from one of your friends? It could save you a lot of time and health issues.

re: Company cafeteria. Maybe you could request that they prepare a low sodium meal for you. I’m sure they’d be happy to do it.

  4. You’re right. The last time I saw anything about the Ebola outbreak it was about a month ago and it read something like 7 had died.
