She’s Ba-ack!

Sorry Strange Brew, but I had this one in the back of my head for a few months now:

Top Of the World

Corrupted Words and Music originally by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis

Such a change has come right over me

There are staples across my poor sore tummy

Still the cut’s healing fine, and the new liver’s mine,

And I hope I don’t wake up and its a dream.

Everything I want the world to be

Is now comin’ true especially for me

And the reason is clear, my new transplant here

It’s the nearest thing to heaven that I’ve seen

I’m on the top of the world lookin’ down on creation

And the only explanation I can find

Is the liver I’ve found. Ever since it’s been around

My transplant’s put me at the top of the world

Somethin’ in the drug store’s learned my name

And it’s tellin’ me that things are not the same

Oh the prices of pills are enough to make one ill

But whatever pleases Liver pleases me.

There is only one wish on my mind

When this day is through I hope that I will find

That tomorrow will be better for this transplantee

All I need will be mine with Liver here

I’m on the top of the world lookin’ down on creation

And the only explanation I can find

Is the liver I’ve found. Ever since it’s been around

My transplant’s put me at the top of the world

I’m on the top of the world lookin’ down on creation

And the only explanation I can find

Is the liver I’ve found. Ever since it’s been around

My transplant’s put me at the top of the world

First things first. Thank you all for the comments, love and encouragement sent my way over the course of the past twelve days. Any attempt to tell you how much you all lifted my spirits would end up as an understatement. Sometimes language simply doesn’t extend itself to the sheer magnitude of events. To say I am grateful sounds weak and insufficient, but I am grateful, and there were days of pain when I held onto my friends, family, and the Socialist as a lifeline and a promise. I include on that list my friends at Dear Diary.

Having said that, the operation and recovery were not as dreadful as one would imagine. I actually woke up from anesthesia in rather chearful spirits, and was fortunate enough to have less pain during the recuperation process than most patients. They actually had me out of bed and walking in just a few days, which will really promote the healing process.

The incision itself is huge. My surgeon calls it a “Mercedes Benz incision”, because it rather looks like the Mercedes Benz emblem. Of course, you could also call it an “upside-down Y” with just as much accuracy, even if it doesn’t sound as elegant! I’ve twice now tried to cound the number of staples used to hold the incision together, but I keep losing count. I don’t suppose it really matters anyhow. The cut literally goes from side to side, with the third part of my cut stopping just at the point of my sternum. I think I may get my hair done “Bride of Frankenstein” style next time, so I can really look the part.

To anyone who may have attempted to send me private correpsondence while I was out: my email in bins filled up very quickly in my absence and I received virtually nothing after June first, and may have lost things previous to June first thanks to one of my accounts wonderful “manager” clean-out programs. *sigh* I guess I should stop being so lazy and start using my ISP’s mail service.

But right now it is a cold, wet, gloomy, rainy day, and I do feel lazy. And tired. So I’m going to roust Kitten of the Silver Coat from my lap, go take my 1:00 pills, and hole up on the sofa for a little nap.

  9. Welcome back to life it’s self and DD!

I can only imagine how happy that you are about the transplant. Thank God that you was able to recieve a liver. You do sound so happy and upbeat. And I am so happy for you.

I am a CNA and I work in the CCU in a hospital.

I work with heart patients. So I understand the medical of what you went through. So, when I heard about your surgery, I had to visit you and wish you well. At work, we work with the people who seek organ donors and with the families to give them up. We call it "The Gift of Life".

I am so happy to know that you were able to recieve one of these gifts. I know that God was with you because besides me, other were praying for you.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

    Love,

    Honey
