Assigning the Guilt

Those of you so inclined, send a prayer or a condolence card to the manager of my apartment complex. She just sat through fifteen minutes of me ranting about last night. It wasn’t her fault, it was beyond her control, she apologized beautifully and promised me reimbursement for my flowers, and I was still so furious that I couldn’t shut up. I was the kind of patron I used to hate when I worked as a paralegal. You know the ones I mean: the customers who didn’t want you to make things right, but just wanted to bitch at you for what you did wrong.

It turns out that somebody changed the workorders and didn’t inform her. My walled garden was added to the list of projects for this week at the last minute by the contractor, and she didn’t get a finalized copy of the list until this morning. This would have been at least twelve hours after the damage was done.

I’m going to submit a bill for damages, which she anticipates there won’t be any trouble getting reimbursement for. The few perennials I had, the annuals that I could have expeced a month or more out of, the damaged lantern that they didn’t even remove from the fence before throwing it down to the ground … I shall have my justice.

The thing is, I needed to yell at someone about this. I tried yelling at the Socialist about his garden hose, but that just ended up giving me the guilts. I’ve tried yelling at the apartment manager now, and ended up feeling badly for her as well. I wish I could yell at the subcontractors, but I think I’ll leave that to the apartment manager. After having me yell at her, she’s going to need someone to berate more than I do.

I ordered a license plate frame for my car that came yesterday. It looks like this:

I put it on my car this morning, and it looks pretty sharp. I also got a static-cling sticker for my car window:

They were giving away free bumper stickers as well, but I don’t think I’ll be putting one of those on my little Prius. I think I’ve saddled my car with enough messages for the moment.

I’ll be doing a solo for the Transplant Conference tomorrow. The Socialist has some projects he’s been intending to get work done on, and with me out of the way he can actually work on some of them. I don’t have a problem with this, but it is going to be a lonely drive out and back. Still, I get the whole room to myself, and can watch whatever I want to on the hotel cable. As I recall, “Monk” is on tonight. If I don’t dawdle, I should get there just in time to catch the show.

  1. I’m glad you will be compensated, but even still, it is terrible. I know what you mean about ranting.

I love the license plate holder AND it reminded me of something I downloaded and wanted to send to you. It is kinda goofy, but what the heck, I thought of you when I downloaded it.

  2. Thanks Pali. I followed the link and read the story and found it very disturbing. Animal researcers should never flatter themselves with a false sense of security.

  3. Sometimes a person needs a good rant. I think most people understand this, I certainly did when I worked customer support.

    Have fun at the conference!

  4. Well, it’s nice to know that you will be recompensed, and your manager was obviously an innocent victim. But will you get your lovely private walled area back?
