Resolving the eBay dilemma.

Well, I thought about my little experience with Mr. I’ll-promise-to-ship-in-ten-days-or-less-but-won’t-really-ship-for-a-month. To be honest, I did get my package, I did get a response to my email even if said response was a bit loopy, and I did get the merchandise at a very reasonable price. So what doI want to give the guy negative feedback for? Because he was late shipping? I know that’s my stated reason. But let’s be honest: I wanted to give the guy negative feedback because I didn’t like the tone of his email response to me when I asked why my merchandise hadn’t arrived after twenty days of waiting.

I got what I paid for. And I should be used to people who live on the edge of La-La land in cyberspace by now. So I left this comment under positive feedback:

Arrived *very* late, well packed. Buy here if time is not a constraint.

I figured he could like it or lump it, but that was the best I was prepared to give him.

He gave me feedback this morning:

SUPER FAST PAYER!!! MONEY CAME FLYING IN THE DOOR SO FAST, I HAD TO DUCK!!! 🙂

Which is true – I paid for the item within fifteen minutes of winning it. I get the feeling that he just saw he’d gotten a positive comment from me and didn’t bother reading it. He must have handled my email the same way – he just assumed it was another complaint and responded without reading what I’d written to him.

I figure that anyone who bothers to read between the lines will have a clue as to what “buy here if time is not a constraint” means.

  1. You handled that ebay thing with exactly what I have come to expect from you: honesty and tact. It’s hard to join the two, at least for me 😉

Your entry reminded me of a good lesson. Think before you act. You chose the right action and got good results in return.

  2. Way to go with the feedback. I would certainly know what the message meant.

As for Windows 98 and the scanner driver situation I suggest using the Find Fast feature. You could look in *My computer* for *unzipped files* or if that doesn’t work, try the name (or a subset thereof) of the scanner. If that still doesn’t yeild paydirt, try looking for *drivers.* That’s all the advice I have. Except that you might use Find Fast to locate *My Received Files.* I have Windows 98, too, and I have it… can’t always find it, but it’s there somewhere!

  3. Yeah… I kind of thought to myself as I went skipping around the diaries after leaving that note that you did say zipped files. I’ll have to admit that my luck with zipped files is way more luck and skill. I keep hitting buttons on the extractor until the files appear, but don’t ask me how I get them to appear!

    :o)

  4. Unzipped files are often put in a new folder created directly on the c: drive or in the folder the zip file was donwloaded to. I’d look for any new folders on the c: drive first.

Another trick I use to find recent files is using the search feature. There’s a feature to find files modified within the last day. Of course you have to know something about the names of the files you’re looking for.

  5. I’m too much of a wuss to buy anything from e-bay. There are some books and things I’ve seen over there that I’d like to get, but the countdown thing scares me away.

Yours is the second entry in a row I’ve read that’s mentioned lasagna. How strange is that? (Its got to mean something. Especially when you consider how hungry I am.)

  6. I seldom read the positives. I figure you can tell a lot more about a vender by what happens when a transaction goes bad–and I always look to see if s/he retaliates. Your comment seems fair, though.
