Catching up to myself.

Labor Day weekend went well, if too quickly. I had a great time with Man-who-uses-forty-foot-ladders-to-hang-birdhouses and The Texan Elf. Pity both don’t live more closely. I made lobsters and corn on the cob for dinner, and both turned out just fine (insert huge sigh of relief here). We went out and played miniature golf afterwards, and I came in last. My mother, queen of hostessing good manners, would have been proud of me, since one never beats one’s guests. It was an honest loss, though, having more to do with my having had two beers and two ciders and then attempting to play using a putter made for an eight year old because there were no adult putters left. I doubt I’d have been in contention anyhow, though, since The Professor and MWUFFLTHB were both in top form.

We spent Sunday and Monday cleaning up the apartment for round two of guests – The Professor’s best friend from the West Coast arrived last night and will be staying through Friday. I really like The Architect, and feel guilty that I have absolutely no days off to take so that I could show him around the area a bit. Still, he’s the independent type who doesn’t seem to blanche at the thought of driving into Center City on his own and doing the sights. I’ll need to figure out what to do for dinner tonight though.

The Professor has *eight* classes this semester. The school has taken him on as temporary full time, because they have had a huge enrollment this fall and didn’t have enought teachers to cover. It probably won’t translate into permanent full time at this point, but it looks good on the resume, and it means that he’ll have less to worry about financially. In fact, were this to translate to permanent full time, he’d be making more than I am. I’m quite pleased for him, and have already suggested he consider setting a little of this windfall aside in an IRA.

The beginning of next week I have to spend three days at Penn State. I’m not looking forward to it. The end of the month I’ll be hosting a friend from Europe for a few days that I’ve met through the net but never in person. I’m already overwhelmed by this month, and suspect I’ll be glad when September is over.
