Bits of this and that.

I spent the weekend catching up on sleep. I didn’t get out of bed on Saturday nor on Sunday before 11:00 in the morning. You have to know me to understand how truly remarkable that was.

We picked up a couple of DVD’s Friday night for the weekend. I’d never seen any of the Batman movies, so I grabbed the first Batman as my choice. While puttering around the video shop, The Professor ran into a movie called “Safe House” that starred Patrick Stewart. Neither of us had either heard of it, and both of us admire Patrick Stewart, so The Professor made that his choice.

The Batman movie was predictably insipid. At least now I can say I saw it, and I’ve gotten that out of my system now. As for “Safe House” … it looked like it was going to be a spy thriller. Which it was. But it was about an aging spy who was battling Alzheimer’s, and it isn’t clear if his battle is being waged against a real adversary or against Alheimer’s induced paranoia. When The Professor realized what it was he’d rented, he was more than a little upset. He still isn’t completely settled about the conversation he and I had a week ago, and much of this movie was an accurate portrayal of a person losing their battle against the disease. I was able to point out to him where the scriptwriters exagerated or just plain got their facts wrong regarding Alzheimers, but he was still upset by it. *sigh* Next time I’m going to have to read the liner notes more closely.

The college the Prof teaches at has suggested he start using Power-Point in his classroom presentations. The college prides itself in bringing technology into the classroom, and uses a host of fancy projectors, calculators, computers and what not on campus. They weren’t able to supply the Prof with PowerPoint, but it was something I’ve been wanting for myself anyhow, so we priced it out on Saturday. $389 for the lousy PowerPoint package. I was prepared to pay up to about a third of that. If the college wants The Prof to use PowerPoint, they’d better provide it to him!

Sunday we explored a small state park near us that I’d never been to before. The trails are not well marked or kept there, and proved difficult to follow them. The park was so small it was impossible to get lost in it though. The mousquitoes were a pain, though. I’ll be glad when fall hits in earnest, and it becomes possible to walk in the woods pest-free.

The Professor has become quite disenchanted with The Kitten from Hell. I can’t blame him. We still haven’t found all the pins from his display of Russian pins that the kitten pulled apart, his Lenin banner that he purchased when he was in Moscow has pulls from kitten claws all through it, he has had files strewn across his study area thanks to the kitten, his neck is clawed from the kitten launching itself at his shoulders, and the kitten knocked over and broke one of our fans this weekend (the motor must have fried when it was knocked over face down). Even the placid and unflappable Clueless Wonder now hisses at the Kitten when it walks into the room. I may have done everybody a disservice by bringing this monster into the house. I can only hope she settles down soon.

  3. I knew you were brilliant!

You may want to watch Dateline tonight – they are having a section on Alzheimer’s and a new possible way of early diagnosis (that’s what the commercial sounded like anyway).

  4. I took the emotional IQ test.

    What does your score mean?

Your Emotional IQ is very good – higher than average. That means that, in general, you express your feelings directly and with good timing. You are optimistic and positive, and adapt well to changed circumstances. You deal effectively with stress, interact and communicate adequately. You are comfortable with yourself (including your sensuality, playfulness); you know and appreciate your talents and strong points as well as your weaknesses.
