A trial run for the jugular

“One is never sure, watching two cats washing each other, whether

it’s affection, the taste or a trial run for the jugular.”

Well, I am apparently going to Nashville. I pushed the main office on Friday, asking where my hotel confirmation was. And Lo! There it was in my in-bin, yesterday morning. This is an unexpected response, and I’m not going to push my luck by telling any co-workers about it. Everybody else’s travel plans are plummeting like lemmings at the end of a very good breeding season, and I doubt it will make me popular when they discover that my request went through. Of greater surprise is the fact that management selected the most expensive accomodations in the book to put me up at. I listed my hotel choices in order of price, with lowest on top. I find personnel’s choice of hotels for me more than a little perplexing, but the only person I’d dare ask about this is my boss, who is out on vacation this week. I’m of a mind not to look this gift horse in the mouth anyhow. I still expect that the Little Rock plans for August will be scratched, but that’s another issue for another day.

We’ve also got the movers lined up for the Big Move. July 22nd, I bid a fond farewell to the current abode. We’ll actually already have much of our stuff moved into the new apartment by then (our lease starts the 12th), so I’ll just have to deal with supervising the moving of the big stuff on the 22nd. I ended up going with the local mover I’d heard good things about. It’s a bit more expensive than I anticipated, but when I think about moving that sofa or the king-sized bed on my own, I realize I’m more than happy to pay the price.

Oh yes. *sigh* Am now officially on a diet. I’m not following any particular plan – common sense and 1200 cals/day ought to do it. That, and the dreaded gym. Target is to make it to the gym (or do an equivalent work out) three times a week. Emphasis will be on cardio, one hour minimum. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and a weekend day of my choosing. Gah, I hate the gym. No more competition eating though. I have to get it through my thick skull that just ’cause The Prof can eat it doesn’t mean I can.

Profit Sharing day is Friday. We had a good year last year, and the checks they’re handing out this year are the biggest ever for the company. I’ve invested the maximum possible into our retirment plan here. The rest I’m handing over to the broker, for this year’s Roth IRA, with the rest to be invested in my portfolio. As long as stock prices are depressed I might as well take advantage of it.

I have e-tickets in hand for our August vacation. I strongly suspect that I’ll be ready to implode from stress by the time I get to that point in the timeline continuem. Now all I need to do is find kitty sitters. The Prof is dead set against kenneling, and I’m not anxious to do that to the furballs myself. The sisters will live too far away to easily be able to kitty sit. Time to do a little research, I guess. There’s a PetSmart not far from the new apartment. Perhaps they can give some recommendations.
