Then how do they make their toast?

MooriddenGirl’s entry yesterday One for the Record Books had me smiling to myself for a good long time. Her son is definitely lining himself up to be the next Douglas Adams. It’s a short entry, and one you should definitely read for yourself, but the gist it that her kindergarten-aged son has discovered that spiders don’t cook. In the initial moment of shock and re-orientation, his first response is “But how do they make their toast?”.

It is a beautifully logical, well-conceived question from the mind of a child who sees sentience and reason in everything around him. My world has gotten smaller than his. I no longer have the ability to truly anthropomorphize a spider; the closest I can come is to attempt to attribute rational behavior to the cats, and I daily realize how impossible a task that is. But, just for a moment, I too paused to wonder how spiders make their toast if they don’t cook. I thank G for that moment.

The Prof and I spoke a bit more about marriage plans last night, as we both drifted off to sleep. He’d like to use the One Ring I purchased for him as a birthday/Christmas present as his wedding band. I rather like the idea. We joked about his getting me a “Nenya” (Galadriel’s ring) for my wedding ring, but it is supposed to have a stone of adamant set in it, and there’s no way he can afford a diamond right now. We’re in no rush to get things formalized, and I suspect it will happen when it happens. I have two good cyberfriends who have become real-life friends that we’d like as witnesses, and I’ll have to see if they could make it, and when would be a good time for them. ((If you’re wondering if it’s you I’m talking about S and T, it probably is.)

I’ve been exploring the web for low sodium recipes. I’m discovering it’s not easy – the web’s idea of low sodium doesn’t exactly match my doctor’s description. I did find a good vegetarian lasagna I made last night – there’s heaps of it and we’ll be eating it all week. It didn’t come out half bad though, and will be even better next time when I remember to add the spinach (D’oh!). I’m looking for low protein receipes as well. I don’t need those now, but as my liver continues to crap out it will become unable to process proteins as well, so I might as well be forearmed.

There’s nothing like being told you can’t have something to make you crave it. A pretzel, a pretzel! My kingdom for a soft pretzel with tons of mustard.

If wishes were soft pretzels, then low sodium patients would have their salty carb fix.

But I suppose I shouldn’t look a gift soft pretzel in the mouth.

I think I’m babbling.
