Don’t Bank On It.

I got a fair amount of stuff accomplished last night, mostly of the clerical variety. Bills got paid, paperwork got filed, accounts got balanced. Well, one account became balanced anyhow. The other has some problems, apparently not of my making.

What is it with banks and me anyhow? Sooner or later I always seem to run into problems. This one is perhaps the one of the more interesting I’ve encountered. The opening balance on my current checking account’s statement does not match the closing balance on the last statement. The difference is $100.15. When I attempted to find what the problem was, I discovered that nearly a dozen checks I wrote in late February and early March have never cleared my account. I know that at least some of them were successfully cashed, because they were for eBay purchases and for utility bills that show as paid. I wondered if maybe a few of these checks did clear, but didn’t make the checking account statement for some reason, but I can’t make any combination of the checks add up to $100.15.

Now one big advantage of my current bank is that it has rather complete on-line banking privileges. I logged in, figuring I’d do an inquiry get the missing activity from February and March and see if that would explain things. To my dismay, there is absolutely no activity on my checking account for that period of time. Which is an absolute impossibility. I couldn’t live without making a weekly withdrawal (my paycheck is direct deposited). So I *know* there has to be activity for this period of time.

Another nice plus about my bank is that it doesn’t keep banker’s hours. They’re open until five Monday through Wednesday, and until eight Thursday and Friday. They also have Saturday and Sunday hours. I was too late yesterday to run my stuff over there and have them take a look at it, but I’ll try tomorrow (I won’t get out of work in time to take care of it today).

I’m still debating the disability issue in my head. I wish something would happen to make the decision easier. Still waiting to hear my MELD score results from Big City Hospital. Maybe that will help me decide.
