I know it’s gonna get better ….

Running a little fever right now. It’s to be expected – I spiked a few in the hospital too. I’m only at 99.4 and the “danger limite” is 100.4 Fahrenheit, so I’m not particuarly worried. Just unconfortable.

Today was my first clinic. For the next six weeks I have to return to the hospital Tuesday mornings for bloodwork and a physical examination. If all goes well, they’ll start stepping it back to every two weeks, then every three, then every … well, you get the idea. Today’s trip was quite taxing, since it’s the first big thing I’ve done since getting home, and I’ve been “off” all day.

My appetite still isn’t back, but I’m managing to get some food down. I just have to consider it part of the prescribed medications, and swallow accordingly. My gut still feels full from lunch though and I have no idea how I’m going to pull dinner off yet. This may be the first time I skip the yogurt I’m supposed to try and have with every meal and just drink a Boost.

I seem to have built a little web of misery around myself that I’m finding it hard to break out of. I’m disgusted by myself, but can’t seem to find the gumption to change things yet. If I could just get a good night’s sleep, I know things would look better.

Oh yeah. I almost forgot. Happy Birthday to me. I’ve never had a birthday that felt less like one.

  1. The best solution for being out of sorts, down and out or otherwise anything less than optimal, is Hugh. Lots and lots of Hugh.

I prescribe three Hugh movies for you. Perhaps Swordfish, Someone Like You and Kate & Leopold. He is almost naked at several points in each of these movies, and that is the best medicine out there!

Seriously, hope your energy returns soon.

  2. Happy Birthday, Pali!!! I know you may not feel much like celebrating just now, but you will soon. Perhaps a candle to blow out in that yogurt? Do you know you can make a soft cheese like substance out of yogurt just by putting a coffee filter in a strainer and draining the whey over night? It is actually pretty good, too. Makes a good spread on toasted bagels, and is wonderful with some green onions in a baked potato. Just thought it might be a different way to get that yogurt into you. Drinking it in a fruit smoothy might be a nice change, too.

  3. Happy birthday! I hope it will look better to you in retrospect, when you shake your post-op funk. If you’re like me, it may make you feel better to know that what you’re experiencing may be more imposed than innate. There’s an article at umich (http://www.med.umich.edu/depression/condition.htm#) that discusses post-operative depression (with relevant link). They’re lightweight articles, but may be reassuring anyway. Hang on. {{{{{you}}}}}}

  5. Hope you feel better soon.

I am sure, after what your body has been through, that this is normal.

I hope your next birthday will be double great.

  6. Happy Birthday! Hang in there. You’ve been through so much that a little pity party or just feeling out of sorts is TOTALLY understandable!! Don’t be too hard on yourself!

  7. Happy Belated Birthday To You!!!!

I am running a little behind here on everything. I am so glad you are home!! I know it sounds trite but I HAVE been praying for you.

As to the yogurt, yeah, it gets to be a bit much but it is really good for the gut and will help get your digestion back up to par.

Take it easy (obviously) and I hope the fever comes down soon.

    Take Care,

  8. Happy (belated) Birthday to you and to a new life!

I hate to hear about the ‘after surgery’ fever.

I was hoping that the fever would by pass.

I also hate to hear about the sleepless nights, if you could just ‘catnap’ that would help out some.

I want you to know that I am praying for you, so hang in there.

    Love,

    Honey
