Songs 30 – 38

30. One Bullet – Garnet Rogers
I wish I could have found a version to embed. It’s a very powerful song.

31. Peacekeeper – Fleetwood Mac

32. What a Good Boy – Bare Naked Ladies
I liked BNL before anyone knew who they were in the US. A local DJ played a lot of Canadian artists, and did a few cuts from BNL’s first album Gordon. I got their debut album soon after it came out in the U.S. (had to special order it). The song “What a Good Boy” was always one of my favorites on the album, but what sealed it as a special song for me was its use in an episode of “Homicide: Life on the Streets”. It was used during the closing sequence of “Hate Crimes”, and the juxtaposition of the song with the images used turned the song from good to memorable for me.
Video of song can be found at UTube (will open in separate window).

33. Streets of London – Ralph McTell
I suppose there are those who can listen and not be moved. I am not one of them.

34. Persuasion – Richard Thomson and Teddy Thomson

35. Viva la Vida – Coldplay
You all know it – no need to link here.

36. Human – The Killers
Ditto. For those of you who are still debating “dancer” versus “denser,” it’s “dancer”. Get over it.

37. Pacing the Cage – Bruce Cockburn
Bruce Coxburn wrote this after visiting the zoo I used to volunteer at and watching a tiger pacing back and forth in its exhibit. I happen to know the tiger he was watching – I was active at the zoo with the docents and with the zoo’s nutritionist at the time the tiger was born. Which has nothing to do with why I have this song on the list, but is a nice little aside.

38. Into the West – Annie Lennox
It makes my eyes well up, for reasons unassociated with the movie.

  1. I only had time to listen to "Peacekeeper" this morning. Will listen to more later. The chord progressions strongly reminded me of Simon & Garfunkel’s "Kodachrome". Where it did depart from it harmonically, though, I liked it. Also, Stevie Nicks is so purty. Wish I had her nose. *sigh* Without the cocaine in it, of course.
