Another cat, another crisis

We have four cats in our household (plus a cat I’m fostering for a rescue group I work with). Because of the Terrible Ringworm Outbreak of 2010, you are all mostly familiar with my little grey problem child, and the rest of the pride gets the short-end of the stick for updates.

When my now husband moved in with me eleven years ago, he brought with him The Warrior Princess. He had adopted WP when she was a young adult at his local SPCA in 1991. That means that WP is at least 20 years old now. She might be ancient, but she’s still queen bee of the little cat pride we have. Nobody messes with The Warrior Princess. She’s slowed down, but other than some arthritis, she’s still in pretty good shape.

WP has had an ongoing problem for five or so years with sores developing on the surface of her eyes, probably due to feline herpes virus. We’ve always successfully treated them in the past with a special anitiviral eye salve, but one she developed about four weeks ago has gotten completely out of control. Today she’ll be going in for a procedure known as a “Conjunctival Flap” that may help spare her eye. At her advanced age, the surgery and recovery process are going to be tricky. It seems impossible that after all these years we might lose The Warrior Princess to an eye infection, but the possibility is real. Keep your fingers crossed for us today.

Taken May of this year.

  1. Good thoughts for WP and you today….

Plus. Ben meticulously removed the corn kernels from the cob and left it for me to put in the trash.

I don’t give them big ones either. This one was a runt about three inches long. 🙂

  2. Somehow, I’m just now getting this. In spite of my lateness to the vigil, I’m wishing the WP the least discomfort and speediest recovery possible.
