Cat Hammocks and Cell Phones

Last night I slept over nine hours. I don’t know that I’ve ever appreciated a good sound sleep as much as I do nowadays. It is an absolute luxury to wake up and actually feel refreshed. I even felt good enough to drag about four boxes up stuff upstairs. I didn’t unpack them or anything useful like that, but at least they’re in the right room now. Unpacking is a smaller expenditure of energy, and can be done on lesser days.

Yesterday I purchased a window-sill hammock for the cats. I installed it on the window of my computer room, right at my left hand shoulder. I have the window cracked about two inches; we’re finally getting a nice soaking rain, and if you close your eyes and ignore the grey clouds it is absolutely heaven outside. The Kitten and the O’beast have both taken immediately to it, and lie with their noses pressed to the crack in the window. I feel just a little forsaken, since Kitten no longer shows any interest what-so-ever in sleeping in my lap any more, but I have to admit, it does make it easier to type at my computer.

Yesterday I also purchased new cell phones. The Socialist doesn’t have a cell phone, and I’ve gotten good and tired of Sprint’s lack of service. The final straw came about a week ago, when I had to go to the hospital for yet more tests. I tried to make three different calls, and Sprint cut me off of every call. The other phone would start to ring, and then I’d get a recorded message that my call had been disconnected. This is not what I need for emergency back-up, and on top of my other problems with Sprint, became the Kiss of Death so far as I was concerned. I wanted The Socialist to have a cell phone anyhow, so I could be sure of getting him regardless of where he was. Even if the phone isn’t turned on, I know now that I can at least leave a message with him should there ever be an emergency. He hates cell phones, but I told him he didn’t have to use it, just carry it and check it once in a while. I get the feeling that the convenience of having it will turn his opinion around eventually though.

Today my best friend from veterinary school stopped by and spend the afternoon. I do enjoy her company. All three of the cats take to her, even Ms. Cattitude, who usually has nothing to do with anybody. It was the O’beast who was absolutely shameless with her though, acting as if he never got any kind attention before and reveling in her ministrations. It’s hard not to be jealous!

I got an interesting email from a virtual friend over the weekend that asked some insightful questions. It gave me a chance to order my thoughts on what’s been happening the past few weeks. It also gave me a chance to talk about things that nobody else had asked me about, and I thank her for it. Later, when I get my thoughts more thoroughly organized, I’ll probably end up devoting and entry or two on some of the answers I gave her.

  1. Glad to hear you finally got a good nights sleep. My husband is not into the cell phone at all. He will bring it with him, but forget to turn it on, or have it on silent and not check to see if we called. He is like that with the answering machine too. On the days he is home, he never checks the machine for messages if he has been outside. I have given up, no use trying to change him now. But it hasn’t stopped me from grumbling under my breath a few times.

    Enjoy the holiday weekend!

  2. lol@poor lovetorn squirrel.

i’m phone resistent, myself–certainly to the displeasure of certain mothers and hysterical homosexuals. glad you got a good night’s sleep and renewed energy.

the cats will come back to you when it’s feeding time, i’m sure 8)

  3. My Sprint cell phone is going out the window, too. It’s not a matter of service for me (every cell phone I know has sketchy service), but cost. I hardly use the thing, and it costs $34.95 a month. 😛 I’m switching to a pre-paid Virgin phone, which uses the satellites of…Sprint. Hmm. Well, it’s way cheaper. Hope your new cell phone works properly. 🙂

  4. It’s great to hear you had a good night’s sleep. i have not had one in a while. My nerves get the best of me and my sleep and appetite go down hill.

On cell phones: i am sure every has an opinion and everyone has a favorite (and least favorite) company. The Wife and i use SunCom and have virtually no trouble out of it. i can’t speak for everyone or every company, but that’s my two cents.

Glad to hear you were able to think about some other things for a while. We will all look forward to those musings.
