Earthsea

Crud. I’ve been looking forward to SciFi channel’s dramatization of Earthsea since I first heard about it last summer. I can’t say I was following the production news that closely, but I assumed that even a typical SciFi station screw up would result in at least a watchable version of the books.

Apparently I’m wrong. I stumbled across Earthsea on Ursula Le Guin’s site this afternoon. I guess I’m just going to have to settle for rereading the books again.

I’m headed for North Carolina for the next few days. I’ll be seeing at least one old friend from vet school down there, and I’m looking forward to the brief getaway. May everyone have as good a week as I plan to.

  1. Oh shoot.

I haven’t read the books. But I was looking forward to the series too. Just because I like fantasy period. This makes you stop and think about the supposed "holy grail" of having your book made into a movie…

    Bah.

  2. Have a great couple of days away from the grind! I wanna go somewhere for a couple of days. Hopefully the gray menance will behave while you are gone…LOL…well, we can think positively, right?

  3. This is most disappointing. I had high hopes for it.

Perhaps it won’t be that bad and LeGuin is just feeling angry at being left out? I’ll probably watch anyway, just to see this interpretation. I remember how pleasing it was, finally to see Tolkien’s characters on screen. Maybe they’ll at least get some parts of Earthsea right.

  4. RYC: The headache fairy has been good to me with the triptans. I don’t know how I got through life without them. In my 20’s before these things were invented, I suffered 4-5 *DAYS* of that kind of pain, and of course, still had to go to work. Urgh. I’m happy for a 7 hour migraine… 😉
