Leaving nothing but Cheshire smile

The Move becomes imminent. I will make arrangements this week for computer access at the new digs. I will also be shutting down computer access here within the week. I may disappear somewhat abruptly. I’m not sure when I’ll be back.

A talk with the Socialist last night inspired new questions within me as to why I write here. Reading some independent blogs on the web raises the notch on what I’m writing. My need for privacy and for compartmentalization of my various web-lives gives me reasons for leaving. Close friends and some trusts give me reason to stay.

I look now to the value of time expended versus value returned. As in anyone’s life, my values get reprioritized, re-evaluated and revised on an irregular basis. This process tends to be catalyzed by life events, usually those beyond my control. Reminders of mortality are really good catalysts for this sort of thing. So are situations in which I find myself humbled. Neither of these are bad things; both are inevitabilities of life that you either embrace with both arms or blind yourself to. And if you wear blinders, you end up missing a lot of the important stuff.

So I’ll take this time to consider my options, and evaluate my motivations. Expect me when you see me next.

  1. For purely selfish reasons, I hope you continue to write a diary. I enjoy following your thoughts and doings, and the fact that you are such a fluent and engaging writer makes it a pleasure to read.

But obviously you’re the only one who can judge whether the time and effort is worth it to you.

  2. I hope you do not decide to leave permentally, I do enjoy reading your diary. Whatever your decision I hope you have a wonderful life and find all the happiness you want and deserve.

  3. i second kiwikimi’s rabid selfishness (well, perhaps her selfishness isn’t rabid, but mine is). i’d sure hate for you to go, kid. i hate that it’s even come to this.

  4. Thanks for the comments on my new background. I hope I have fixed the repeating background problem (I added another 200 pixels for good measure-it was already set at 1200 :o) ) and I’ve also made a dark version of that set, which I’ll throw out there in a couple days. Let that one sit and maybe more people will see it.

I also have a problem with busy backgrounds. You should see my sister’s xanga page…I’m glad I don’t have epilespy.

  5. RYC: Well, it’s a comfort to know you’re reading, even if you’re not writing…thanks for dropping by. I miss hearing from you on a regular basis. Did I send you a link to Patches the Pony?
