If the shoe fits, limp in it.

So I was talking with a male friend yesterday online, someone who I respect rather highly. In the midst of the conversation (which was sort of a back and forth joke about what do guys/gals really want) he said:

From what I’ve seen especially over at the diary site in many hostile entries, it’s very rare to find a man above pond scum, while women are angelic.

Well, that set me back on my heels a bit. I thought about the diaries I read regularly. Slipperman, Jade, franny, ChinaPink (who isn’t around nearly as much as I’d like anymore), Fury22, annette, JenCat (apologies to anyone I’ve left off, but this is just tossing out from the top of my head and not intended to be an all-encompassing list) … they all seem to be in good relationships and/or on good terms with the male of the species at the moment. Not much male bashing going on there.

The few diaries that I visit where there is marital trouble or a recent divorce don’t exactly put guys at the level of pond scum. The women writing there, while they do vent frustration on their mates or former mates, frequently assume just as much of the blame themselves. Maybe it’s just that I’m reading the wrong diaries …?

Then a moment of godawful insight … was he referring to my diary? I read over the last couple of months of entries. Goddamn if the shoe doesn’t fit. Funny how something that fits that well is so uncomfortable. Looks like the Salamander needs an attitude adjustment.
