Herd Update

I haven’t mentioned the cat herd in a while, except the downstairs foster (who is still looking for a home). I took a bunch of pictures the past few days, some of which came out nicely. A brief look at Who’s Who in the Salamander Pride:

CATROY WAS HERE.

The Little Black Shit likes hanging out on what The Prof calls the “Top Flet” of our six foot cat tree. For those of you not Tolkien fans, a flet is a platform in the trees that the Elves use for homes.

SPECIAL DELIVERY FROM AMAZON

I got C.J.Cherry’s latest book Betrayer from Amazon the day it was released this week. Being basically lazy, I left the opened box on the kitchen table so I could immediately begin to read it. The Little Grey Shit immediately tried to curl into it, even though it was only marginally big enough for the book that came with it. Since she seemed to like it, I stuck it down on the floor. All the cats have had their turn, with more-or-less success, in nesting in the box, and it is now looking rather sorry and flat. LGS was the most persistent, and I swear she’s taken on a slightly square shape after sending a week using the box as a Barcalounger.

Spring is finally arriving, and I’ve been leaving the blinds open in the morning to give the cats a chance to bask. The Little Brown Shit, with her wonderfully variegated coat, always looks striking in the sun.

And finally, Warrior Princess. She is officially at least twenty years old, possibly older. The Prof adopted her as a very young adult nineteen years ago, so it’s hard to be sure of her exact age. Arthritis has taken its toll, especially on her front legs, and she goes through periods where she refuses to eat and in my heart I fear the worst. Every time she bounces back, though, and she was feisty enough last night to take a swipe at LBS when she passed too closely. WP spends most of her time in “The Orange Room,” one of the spare bedrooms that The Prof painted orange and uses as his study.
