A stitch in my side

Actually, a whole bunch of stitches. I haven’t actually steeled myself to count them yet. The hernia repair incision ended up being a wee bit bigger than I anticipated, and my recovery from anesthesia a wee bit rougher. The did let me go from the hospital Friday night, but I spent all of Saturday moping around the house Saturday feeling head-achy and nauseous, unable to eat or drink much, and relearning how to get in and out of bed without using any abdominal muscles. That last, by the way, is a whole helluvalot easier in the hospital with those little side-rails they put on the beds.

Today I feel somewhat better, and am maneuvering a bit better. I ate a whole yogurt plus a slice of bread PLUS one of those nuke-a-soup things. If I behave, my side aches rather than actually hurts.

I have no idea when I get the stitches out yet, but I hold out some hope it may be Friday. Meanwhile, this is about all the typing I feel like pushing myself to do. I think I’ll return to the sofa and stare into space some more.

  1. I am glad to hear the operation went well and now as much as you want to get busy and do things, relax and let your body heal a guy at work just had the same operation done and it did not take too long to recover so it will be for the better..

  2. Glad you’re home and it’s over with. I don’t handle anesthesia well and tend to vomit quite a lot so I feel for you. The yogurt and soup are probably a really good idea. How about some popsicles?? My Dr. always prescribed them saying that you can’t eat them fast enough to make you sick and they still keep you hydrated. Gatorade frozen in ice cube trays works well, too.

  3. Oh, how I feel for you! My stupid gut hurts ALL THE TIME. A day does not pass in which I have no abdominal pain anymore. The worst is when my stomach is empty. All I can do is sit there and keep super-firm pressure on it. Who knew a fist-sized organ could cause so much pain just because there’s nothing in it?

Here’s to hoping you feel like your pre-surgical self in no time and that your fur kids don’t jump right in the middle of you all the time like mine do. (It is amazing how heavy a five-pound chihuahua feels when it runs up and down your body with abandon.)

  4. If you position yourself on your side facing the edge of your bed (or sofa), you can roll right off to a semi-standing position without using any stomach muscles. I learned this when I was pregnant with the twins, and discovered that it works for back injuries too!
