Another day, another dollar

*sigh* So this is what it comes to. I got the part-time CPhT job at Big Chain Pharmacy. The pharmacist who hired me had basically decided he was hiring me before he even saw me. He asked me no personal questions and gave me little more than a quick run-down of the job description. If I hadn’t volunteered information and asked questions, I think they’d have hired me without any more information than I’d already supplied on line. At no point did any questions come up about what I did at my former job, and I strongly suspect that even though it could be extrapolated from the information I provided on line that they have no idea I’m a licensed veterinarian.

I had to take a skills test (heavy on math) without a calculator or scratch paper, but the math was so ridiculously easy that it didn’t much matter. I need to get a drug test done at a local lab, and as soon as he gets the results it sounds like I’ll be starting.

As we were finishing up the pharmacist leaned over and whispered to me that since I was already certified I’d be making a dollar an hour more than the non-certified techs to start. That means I’ll be making a whopping $10/hour. I’ll be working 15-22 hours per week. After trying so long and hard to get anything, I suppose I should be grateful, but it’s still a bit of a slap in the face. I can but hope that I’ll climb the corporate ladder quickly. Now that I have employment, other places may be more willing to look at my resume.

  1. Congratulations! Good news is good news. It may not be your dream job, but at least it is something to tide you over until that perfect job comes along.

  2. Well, look at it as an opportunity to discover if this is an area that is going to hold your interest and possibly provide another career avenue for you. Considering the interview wasn’t up to your expectations, I can understand your reluctance. Hopefully, the other job will come through but if not, you will have this one until you find what you truly want to do.

    Have a good weekend.

  3. Yes, cautious congratulations – conventional wisdom is that it’s easier to get a job if you already have one. And it’s a vote of confidence in its own right.
