I just heard the news.

Bob Keesham, who played Captain Kangaroo, died today.

His show was a huge part of my childhood. It started the year I was born, and was still running when I was in my twenties. Believe me, there were quality shows for kids long before Sesame Street.

Mr. Greenjeans, Mr. Moose, Bunnyrabbit, Miss Frog … now THERE was a real match for Kermy. None of this Frog meets Pig nonsense.

  1. As for the eBay quandary: I feel it’s better to post nothing at all than risk having a negative comment to me posted because some loser wants to strike back. It’s up to each user to check the feedback of anyone he or she wants to buy from or sell to. Maybe it’s a cowardly road, but if another user sees 40 negatives already posted there, he/she will (hopefully) think twice without needing to see 41.

  2. Oh dear. No Captain Kangaroo?

    What sad news.

I watched him too growing up, and I agree, it was a simple and straighforward approach to children’s shows that is sadly lacking today.

Besides that, the man could do ANYTHING with an empty shoebox….

I wonder if ping pong balls are falling on him in heaven….

    GodSpeed Captain Kangaroo!

    Y.

  3. I remember when I started first grade I was completely hysterical when I realized that morning classses (I’d had afternoon kindergarten) meant that I would never again see my beloved Captain and his crew. The only way she got me to go to school was by telling me about holidays and summer vacations.

RIP, Captain. You had a fine job, and you did it well. I really liked the suit, too.

  4. I, too, just read the news about Captain Kangaroo. Kids television has lost some goodies over the last year or so with this loss and the retirement of Fred Rogers. *sigh*

  5. You know if I every really did try to pinch her cheeks she would whoop my ass. I’ve never known anyone that actually pinches cheeks. Do guys really do that.

  6. I’m sorry to hear about The Socialist’s family health troubles and hope things end up alright.

Loved your first paragraph about the days of the week!

  7. Leave as neutral feedback, stating that while the product was as advertised, delevery promises were not met.

Sad news about the death of Captain Kangaroo. I remember watching him as a kid, and wish today’s TV programming for children had something comparable.

  8. Leave the guy neutral feedback, you did get your item after all. We’re working off a retaliation negative on our feedback right now, and while I hate to see it there I really am glad to have called a bad seller a bad seller. She got kicked off of eBay not long after, so it was worth it in my opinion. You could just say "item received as described, slow to ship". It probably will get you a neutral in response, but they do allow you to reply to his feedback to you.

  9. What about your fellow ebay patron who might be stuck with bad vendor for not knowing he or she is rude and doesn’t deliver on time? What about humanity? DOn’t you care about humanity? About the greenhouse effect? About puppies? Okay I’ll go.

  10. I have so much to comment on here. Okay, here goes. Yay for Friday!

I’m sorry for the Socialist’s family member and for him. Regardless it still hurts to lose someone (or even to think you’re going to lose someone).

As far as Ebay, I’d tell it like it is, negative or positive.

    Love,

  11. Goodbye, Captain Kangaroo.

I met him once. Some friends and I went to a festival once where the proceeds went to some children’s charity. The Captain was there signing autographs if you made a donation. The funny thing was one of my friends had brought her young son, and when she introduced him to The Captain she told Ol’ Bob how she used to watch him as a little girl, and now her son liked him, too. I think maybe it made him feel old or something.

I feel bad about the Socialist’s family situation. I wish there was something I could do. If I feel that way I imagine he feels pretty helpless right now.

  12. I’m not familar with Ebay…but perhaps in his case, since there are already 40 negative comments, that would be a warning to all.

I grew up with The Captain too. He will be missed.

Hope the Socialist is holding up.

  14. Steve just told me that the box thing I was asking about (comment/read comment buttons etc) doesn’t change size. Thank you for trying to help me figure it out 😀

    I like friiii-days too 🙂

  15. I’ll have you know it isn’t all tanning lotion and orange trees here. With the off shore breeze coming in we have a wind chill factor of 70 degrees.
