Falling into Spring

It’s too early to start singing “Spring has sprung”, but this weekend was enough to tempt fate. Warm, mild, and (dare I say it?) spring like, it was a weekend for dusting off patio furniture and planting primroses.

And yes, Frank’s Nursery finally had a fine display of primroses this weekend. I bought twenty plants in six different colors, and scatter-planted them in the small plot remaining to me. Last year I planted in regimented rows, which looked good enough, but just didn’t have that “care-free” look to it I’d been hoping for. This year, other than spacing the plants as evenly as possible, I paid no attention to rows and columns. I left the two dragonfly stepping-stones in place, and the effect is rather pleasant. Two of my three miniature rosebushes made it through the winter, and are just beginning to send up fresh shoots. I also have three mystery plants left over from last year that are putting out fresh leaves. My sister wouldn’t/couldn’t identify them for me, but promised they’d bloom this year, so I’m just working around them. I’d have pictures, except that my computer has apparently imploded my software interface for my digital camera and I can get it up and running yet (uninstall/install didn’t work, so please don’t suggest that).

I have decided to bite the bullet and get a new computer with some of my tax refund money. Frankly, the idea of setting up a new computer scares the crap out of me, but it’s only going to become a worse chore the longer I put it off. I’ve been on my current computer for seven years now, and I have no clue how to move half the stuff I have on my old computer to my new one. Email is going to be the worst. I will never understand the workings of Outlook Express and how it decides to name and store emails. I’ve pretty much resigned myself to losing most of my email, and printing off that which I do not wish to lose. I absolutely refuse to commit myself to Outlook Express on my new computer, though I am clueless as to what other email manager programs are out there. I’m sure that anyone who really wants to sell me a computer can help out with that, though.

Tomorrow afternoon I have an appointment with Dr. Liver. I continue to be annoyed at Big City Hospital, who have yet to get back to me about last week’s bloodwork. I don’t even know when they want me to get new bloodwork drawn. This time I’m not even going to bother calling them; I’ll just ask Dr. Liver what he suggests I do when I see him.

I fell going upstairs Saturday night. I never fall going down stairs, only going up. I must have some variation on the Klutz Gene. I was nearly at the top of the stairs, and when I fell I hit the hamper we keep in the corner of the upstairs landing with my left forearm. I have an impressive scrape and dent on the area of impact today. I should be able to wring a couple more days of sympathy out of The Socialist based on how it looks right now.
