A new apartment?

heh – I was so busy worrying about events beyond my control yesterday that I actually forgot to write about what’s been happening this weekend. And things are indeed happening.

Friday night started off the weekend nicely. The Professor and I went out for Indian Friday night (I’m getting better at figuring out things that aren’t going to trigger the ol’ GI spasms from setting in). We stopped next door at the video rental place afterwards and used a couple of coupons to get two one-dollar rentals. The Proffessor selected “A Clockwork Orange” which he’d never seen, and which I hadn’t seen for perhaps twenty years. I picked out “The Amazing Mr. Ripley”, which I had wanted to see in the theaters but missed. When we got home, we watched “Clockwork Orange”. I’m not sure The Prof was quite expecting what he got there. The cats are now being referred to as “Droogs” though, so he did have some fun with it. “Ripley” is going to have to wait until Wednesday night – we ended up being too busy Saturday and Sunday nights to get a chance to watch it.

Saturday I slept. Late. Clueless and ACfH woke me up in the wee hours for breakfast, but I managed for once to get back to sleep after feeding them. The Prof and I used a couple of coupons I’d gotten at work for Ruby Tuesday’s ($5.00 off any entre of $10.00 or more, making it a rather affordable stop). I found a new wallet for myself, and got a new set of headphones for my Discman. I’d stopped using my CD player at the gym because even at top volume I couldn’t hear my music over the din of treadmills, televisions and radio there. For $10.00 I got a set of in-ear headphones. I don’t recommend these for any place where you really do need to hear some outside noise (like jogging outside, in the car, or at your desk) but they worked great at the gym. The in-ear design blocks out all the external noise and pipes the music straight in. I won’t claim that these things will make the gym enjoyable, but they will make it less heinous. I loathe the gym.

I have to say, though, that the gym is doing wonders for the Prof. He’s been taking it seriously, going nearly every day, and the muscle definition in his back, shoulders and upper arms has gotten to be pretty incredible. A studious hunk … I have the best of both worlds here! (grin)

Sunday the Prof and I went out exploring, looking for leads on new apartments in the area that would be about the halfway point between his prospective new job and where I work now. Pickings were poor, to say the least. We did find one place that had three bedroom apartments available at a very reasonable cost, but the complex was a dump, and the total square footage of the apartment was nearly identical to our current two bedroom apartment. Another place we checked looked great, but had no three bedroom apartments coming available in the near future. Many places didn’t allow animals, and a surprising number don’t have office hours on Sunday.

But one place we found … one perfect place …

Townhouse style. Three bedrooms and a den. A private patio AND an enclosed garden area. A kitchen twice the size of my current one. A dining room. Lots of closet space. The grounds are gorgeous. The floor plans are show stoppers. AND WE CAN AFFORD IT! We could afford it even now, with The Prof still working part time.

Just one catch … they only allow two cats. Hey, no problem. We have ACfH and then two interchangeable black and white cats. I just can’t let WP and Clueless sit in the window at the same time!

They didn’t have Sunday hours (of course) and Saturday is by appointment only. The Professor is supposed to try and set up an appointment to talk with them Monday.
