I completely missed the 45th anniversary of the premier of original Trek last week. For others who care, this is a great little article:

The paracentesis did not go as well today as I had hoped. We only got 5.5 liters out of me. There was definitely more fluid in my abdomen, but we couldn’t get it to move into the pocket where the needle was inserted, so we couldn’t drain it. My bleeding times have greatly increased, and…
The serpent bites its own tail, and this hoop snake year comes to an end. A few things that describe my life at present: Frustration: The thing that most summarizes the year for me is that itâs the first full calendar year in my adult life that I have been neither employed nor a full…
They simply announced that they were going to play a single from some group or another’s soon to be released album. I really wasn’t listening that closely. I can’ explain it. Perhaps thirty seconds into the song the breath was stolen from my chest and I was desperately trying to remember who the hell they…
Welcome to my Thursday. I’ve been busy helping visiting researchers do a prevalence study. It’s been a lot of time and not much work. The data collection is going smoothly. Too smoothly. I guess planning is everything, but I’ve been standing around doing little. Once we got things set up and going, I largely became…
I went outside to inspect the results of a week’s worth of storms on the balcony. The cactus that the guys in my vet school class had given me when I was in the hospital is rotting from the base. I don’t know if it is storm related or if it was starting to happen…
A co-worker walked up to me today and casually mentioned meetings that she’d attended where they’d discussed phasing out a program that represents a major part of my job. She assumed I knew about it. Of course, this was the first I’d heard of it. Anybody ever watch Deep Space Nine? Remember the game “Tongo”…
I hadn’t thought about the editing/pacing aspect of it before, but the author’s absolutely right.
A great list. I’m passing it on to BassPlayer.
this is the show that turned me onto sci-fi fantasy. i think i’m the only one in my family to have watched it. i used to make my sister laugh when i’d "sing" the closing theme. great article…have to watch "a taste of armageddon" now…
What a lovely walk down memory lane! Thank you! I was lucky, my Mom loved TOS, so I got to watch them all as a kid. One of my boyfriend "tests" has always been whether or not they enjoyed TOS. If they hadn’t ever watched, I’d turn it on and watch him watching the show. A bad reaction to the show, Shatner bad acting criticisms aside, meant that relationship was a no-go.
