I completely missed the 45th anniversary of the premier of original Trek last week. For others who care, this is a great little article:

39. Field Behind the Plow â Stan Rogers This was written about the family farm, but it’s a story about pouring everything into a project with no guarantee of success. Nike’s “just do it” campaign becomes a shallow thing when you actually think about all the people in all the jobs across this world just…
I’m back on morphine. I’m using the left overs from my prescription from last March, when my arm went blooey. Yeah, I know. If physicians who treat themselves have a fool for a doctor, then veterinarians who treat themselves definitely deserve what they get. It doesn’t matter. My neck is out again. I’ve suspected it…
Oof … rough night. The Prof has a nasty habit of saying sarcastic things that sting, and then backing off when he’s called out about it, claiming he was just joking. I thought it was just me being hypersensitive, but his aunt called him on it when we met up with them last weekend, so…
I feel pretty lousy at the moment. I’m just back from getting the paracentesis done, and my abdoment is very crampy and sensitive. Today we broke my all-time high, set two and a half weeks ago at 8.125 liters. Today we drained 9.4 liters off of me. Let’s see – 9.4 liters is approximately 9.4…
Ah, the siren call of the well-turned phrase. Who can resist an argument when it is summarized as: The Right to ChooseChoose LifeRight to DieRight to LifePro-lifePro-choiceThe Culture of Life This newest call to arms, “The Culture of Life,” is all the more remarkable because it actually introduces an entirely new word into the vocabulary…

We never cheated on each other. He loved me dearly and will probably never understand why I left him. We never spoke at the dinner…
I hadn’t thought about the editing/pacing aspect of it before, but the author’s absolutely right.
A great list. I’m passing it on to BassPlayer.
this is the show that turned me onto sci-fi fantasy. i think i’m the only one in my family to have watched it. i used to make my sister laugh when i’d "sing" the closing theme. great article…have to watch "a taste of armageddon" now…
What a lovely walk down memory lane! Thank you! I was lucky, my Mom loved TOS, so I got to watch them all as a kid. One of my boyfriend "tests" has always been whether or not they enjoyed TOS. If they hadn’t ever watched, I’d turn it on and watch him watching the show. A bad reaction to the show, Shatner bad acting criticisms aside, meant that relationship was a no-go.
